For me, it's part of the Tommy Lee Sequel Trilogy, with Fright Night 2 and Vampires: Los Muertos.

Waiting for Godot at the Guthrie was fantastic.

That feeling when I go to see a local staging of Waiting for Godot and don't realize until I'm taking my seat and checking the program that I'm about to see David Strathairn on stage.

Wait, is a garish, provocative satire not allowed to be garish and provocative anymore? When did that happen?

Feels like a "rip off the bandaid by bombing it and making the boom" type of situation just so it won't keep lingering as a threat.

If you want to parse it that far, yeah.

I think the difference is between a horror film with comedic moments, or one where the central spine of what everything else is anchored on is itself comedic.

It helps to think of genre as a Venn diagram of overlaps instead of a singular definer. Two of the most shocking and horrifying films I've recently seen, Coffee Table and Ugly Stepsister, are also wickedly hilarious and thematically satirical.

I would argue that Obsession and the Terrifiers are dark comedies, yes. Very very dark, but definitely leaning into a comedic slant of horror. Less consistently successful in Terrifier's case, but yeah.

Watched an ep of Rivals of Sherlock Holmes adapting Hodgson's Carnacki the Ghost-Finder story "The Horse of the Invisible". Captures the twists and turns of the atypical haunting mystery with stately eeriness. Carnacki's characterization is way off, but still a fun performance from Donald Pleasence.

This cover does also perfectly fit the entire subgenre of comedic fantasy paperbacks we were getting in the 80s. I totally would have read this book.
