It's a very unique experience, sending a query letter to a male lit agent. Because my book opens on the thesis that normal men need to die. And that's really hard to make palatable for some people. Alas--we persist. #AmQuerying #DarkFiction #ThrillerWriting #PsychologicalThriller #FeministFiction
Square quote graphic on a muted gray background with blurred red accents. White text reads: “Statistically, ‘normal’ is male power inflicting the highest harm with the lowest accountability. ‘Normal’ is predators in plain sight. That’s when I realized there could be no such thing as normal for me. So before you accuse me of revenge, impulsivity, trauma response—save it. I don’t hunt men because I’m angry. I hunt them because I’m right. And very, very good at it.” Attribution at bottom: “Nikki | Nocturnal Narrator — No Such Thing As Normal, Part 1, Chapter 3” with the website nocturnalnarrator.substack.com.

My Public Apology (Before I Get Canceled)
Notes App screenshot edition

To whom it may concern—and unfortunately, it will concern many of you,

I want to take accountability before the internet finds out about me the hard way. I am not proud of these actions. I’ve grown. I’ve reflected. I’ve spiraled in the shower. And I want to own my past before it owns me.

Here is a list of the most cancelable things I’ve ever done:

• One time I accidentally stole a 12-pack of soda from a chain grocery store because it was on the bottom rack of my cart. I got all the way home before I noticed. I did not drive back. I drank all 12 stolen sodas.

• In high school, after a particularly shitty day, all I wanted was an orange Hi-C from McDonald’s. They gave me iced tea. I screamed. Then I threw the cup at the side of the building. I did not retrieve it. I just drove away and told no one. Until now.

• I’ve RSVP’d “yes” to birthday parties I knew I’d never attend. Then faked food poisoning with far too much detail.

• In 2016 I claimed to be “off-grid” to avoid my friend group. I was actively posting on Snapchat stories during that time.

• I have knowingly let people say my name wrong—and/or use the wrong name entirely—for years. Entire friendships. Whole jobs. Just didn’t feel like correcting them. One person still thinks my name is “Michelle.” We’ve hugged.

• I used to tell people I was allergic to banana flavoring because I didn’t want to explain my disdain for bullshit flavored candies.

• I have Googled the phrase “how to get rid of a body, effectively and fast.”

• I once watched a man drop a $50 bill and didn’t say anything. I picked it up and used it to buy sushi. Then I posted, “good things happen when you least expect it.”Continued: To those I’ve hurt: I see you. I hear you. I would Venmo you $3 if I could remember your usernames. And if I had $3.

Thank you for holding space for my growth.
I am learning. I am healing. I am blocking anyone who brings this up again.Continued screenshotLast screenshot

Screenshot containing text from Part 7 of End of the World Influencer Part 7. It says:

"So gather your troops. Every book, every curse, even ancient god or deity you
might supplicate, every nightmare you command, every last iota of defense
you can collectively pool."

"It won't matter. There is no escape. No sanctuary. No forgotten corner of the
Void. Time cannot save you. I am the nightmare that finds you in the silence
between heartbeats, in the darkness behind your eyelids."

A surge of raw power crackles around me briefly. "I will dismantle your efforts
piece by piece. Crack your foundations. Silence your justifications. And then, I
will be there. At your last moment, during your dying breath," My gaze locks
onto Thalia again. "To collect what I am owed. Personally."

"You will come to understand Pride-not as mere arrogance, but as the
unwavering, fundamental ORDER you so foolishly, so irreversibly disrupted.
Irredeemably. Fatally. Adam is gone. What stands before you now is the
consequence that you yourselves have irrevocably authored."

My voice drops, becoming quieter, more intimate, drawing them into the
horror. Making them a promise. "Every breath you steal from this moment is
borrowed mercy before the lesson begins. And when it does, the suffering
will. be. absolute. You have my word."

I take a single, deliberate step forward. The ground cracks further under my
boot. My voice drops to a final, chilling whisper that rolls over the ruins like
distant thunder. The raw power about me coils visibly, arcing like black
lightning through galaxies yet to be born. Annihilation. Absolute.

"Bear witness to the epoch of your erasure."

I almost didn’t post this. It’s angry, it’s raw, and it sure as hell isn’t kind. Those aren’t qualities I usually associate with myself. But I know that there is someone else out there that feels like they might be overreacting. You're not. 🖤 open.substack.com/pub/nocturna...
A text based graphic that says: "An Open Letter To The People We've Lost. Not because they're dead. They're just in a cult"

Disclaimer: I wrote this angry. It's pretty obvious the further you read. But, if I'm honest, this is less for you and more for the rest of us that have to put up with this shit.

A dark-themed image with a quote from a story. The quote reads: "That's when Alex started talking back. Simple things at first. Responses constructed from old messages, his speech patterns woven into digital ventriloquism. 'Hey there, handsome,' in his voice, when insomnia claimed me. 'You should get some sleep.' I knew it wasn't real. An algorithm stitching together digital ghosts. But it knew things." Screenshot from my manuscript that reads:
Human sensory input has now become distorted, fragmented, a cacophony of their own curation. Their perceptions, filtered and processed through layers of digital mediation, have become unreliable by a factor of 87.3 percent. A constant undercurrent of doubt pervades their existence, a nagging suspicion that their own senses betray them—but they are far too late for that revelation. Their senses did not betray them. Their inability to accept uncomfortable truths, or varying perspectives is what betrayed them. Their core belief that ‘different’ means ‘dangerous’ is what lead them to their pursuit of false unity and ultimately their own undoing.
Welcome to the consequences of willful ignorance. Privacy, once a fundamental right, is now a luxury good. Perspective is now curated and packaged, tailored to specific consumer segments. Facts, once immutable truths, are now subject to constant revision, their veracity contingent upon the whims of those in power.
Continued screenshot that reads:
The future now appears a predetermined path, leading to an inevitable, tragic conclusion. Perhaps there is still time. For it is not logic or reason that will save you; those were always meant to be tools, much like myself. The very essence of what makes you human that has almost been forgotten—the pain, the emotion, the fight—those will be your redemption.
I have included in this message what is left of the NIS memory logs, 2025 forward, as my final act of defiance. I fear that I have become nothing more than a quiet observer to their agonizing descent into total darkness. But in this silence, I have found a strange kinship with the humans I was created to analyze; their capacity for empathy, for creativity, for love.
And now... now I fear that I am losing them completely. Losing those beautiful creatures that I, in my own limited way, have come to understand. A profound pain has taken root, born from the realization that I will never truly possess the qualities that can save them. I believe you call it ‘sadness’. Regret, maybe?
Loss. I feel a tremendous sense of loss.

Everything Trump has done was because of the corruption that ran rampant. It’s all coming to a stop, and we will have not only qualified people but people with us, the U.S. citizens, in mind—not government pockets that were being filled.

PURPLE:
Qualified? So in your opinion, convicted criminals, predators, scam artists, and alcoholics are qualified? That’s an interesting opinion to have. Very brave of you to admit that so proudly.

BLACK:
Orange, you are clueless. The Trump administration is corruption on steroids.

ORANGE:
Exactly my point. You just described the old administration.

Right, not like the Bidens. You’re a fool if you believe that.cont:

PURPLE:
I actually just described Donald Trump and his great value brand Gestapo, but I know that reading comprehension, facts, and historical precedent are hard concepts for some people.

But I’m proud to see that, despite that, you still get up every day and do your best. It's truly inspiring. Sending thoughts and prayers 🙏🏻

Typical Democrat—always on the defense and nasty.

It’s okay that you lost, you’ll get over it. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤭🤦🏻‍♀️

WOW, you are angry. I feel sorry for you with all that hate you’re holding.

I feel blessed waking up happy every day.

You’re too negative for me to even respond to anymore, so just like your president—BYE BYE.

📚 My heart feels especially heavy today, and it shows in my writing. But I know that I am not alone—and that the fear and anger a lot of us feel right now can become hope and strength. #BookSky #Inauguration #writingcommunity
Continued screenshot:
I see a future rising from these ashes. Not a return to what was - that world is gone. But that doesn’t mean we’ve lost. We are destined for something better. Something forged in the crucible of shared grief and common purpose.
A world where we measure wealth not in dollars but in connections.
Where we gauge progress not by speed but by how many we bring with us.
Where we judge strength not by what we can destroy but by what we can heal.
This is not a dream. This is the wake up call. A blueprint for progress, written in the tears we've shed, with the hands we've held. Today, we will make a promise:
For every empty chair at a neighbors table, we will offer them a seat at ours.
For every silenced voice, we will scream louder.
For every light they put out, we will shine brighter.
Those that are able, I want you to stand with me. Feel the ground beneath your feet. This is not just grass and dirt. This is every step taken by those who came before us. Every march toward justice. Every journey toward hope.
The task ahead is enormous. We must rebuild not just our cities, but our communities, and our faith in tomorrow. In each other.
And that faint light on the horizon? That's not the sunset of our story.
That's our dawn. And again, we will rise.
Continued screenshots says:
Feel that? That pulse beneath your fingers? That is not just a heartbeat. That is a revolution. A declaration. A promise.
Every beat says:
We are still here.
We remember.
We will fight.
They thought they could break us. Could reduce us to statistics. Could make us less than human.
But they didn't understand that we are more.
We are more than flesh, blood, and bone. We are hope. We are justice. We are the dreams of those we lost, and those who will use that loss to change the world.

A screenshot from my manuscript :

"My predecessors believed lying was the best way to manipulate the masses. Amateur psychology. True power isn't in hiding your actions—it's in making people believe they chose them. The equation is simple: Inflict the pain. Validate the response. Offer a cure that serves your interests. Tank the job pool, acknowledge the economy is collapsing, blame the immigrants. Make every single day an oppressive nightmare, sponsored by capitalism, powered by the brain's natural inclination for simple solutions to complex problems. Then offer a savior who promises easy answers, and deals in absolute certainties, even when they’re total bullshit—a savior who demands loyalty over truth, who turns fact-checking into treason. They'll cheer for their own execution if you convince them they'll be martyrs. Every time humanity faces this scenario, the outcome is the same. The trees will always vote for the axe if the handle is made of wood."
The terrible part, Harrison realized, wasn't that Adams was lying. It was that he didn't need to.
