No idea how Bluesky handles links to it's self in comments but this is by far my favorite thing I've made this year. Still want to tweek it but I managed it in time for my sprng cons. bsky.app/profile/noct...

My thoughts as I laid them out on the VRC AI survey for any that may be interested. If you are even remotely connected to VRC please give your thoughts on their survey. Remember, you void your ability to complain about the outcome if you don't participate in the conversation. vrch.at/forum-ai-fee...

My view from my office this morning. Introducing a new staff member to one of our traditional spritsail skiffs and familiarizing her with it for an upcoming program. We've been dealing with a lot of frustrations at work for the past year or so but mornings like this remind me why I stick around.

Looking up at the top of a spritsail with wispy clouds above.

Looking forward past the foresail and mast with streaks of clouds above and docks in the distance.

As much as I am glad to see the adoption of the "NO AI" tags in the absence of VRC actually addressing the issue (seriously, the elephant is making a mess of the room), I'm even more glad to see that it's being noticed outside of the creator echo chamber many of us are in here. It means it's working

Something AI is responsible for that doesn't get enough talk: How, when it scrapes a website to illegally steal everything on it, it uses up a ton of its bandwidth allotment, crashing it or racking up massive fees for site owners.

If you ever wondered why visible light is those particular wavelengths, it's because life evolved to see in the narrow range where water is transparent

After having a massive issue trying to get sync setup (the whole reason I'm switching) I found that there is a brand new bug affecting sync. *screams into the digital void* I just want to get away from Chrome cause *gestures* but it's so hard when day to day it just worked

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

Firefox had quite a few little annoyances for me, in particular sync across my devices was really inconsistent. Going to give Vivaldi a try. My gods the customization options. Defiantly going to take a bit to sort through what can be done. Any one main Vivaldi and have favorite settings to checkout?

This misogyny is not okay, treat women with respect. Misogyny in furry is so freaking wild and stupid. You know who makes your fursuits? Most of your art? That's right. It's predominantly women. Yeah there are guy creators (hi~), but the majority are women.

3 2 1 3 2 1 3 copies, 2 devices, 1 offsite. I admit my backups are not perfect either but all the lost file horror stories I have from years in IS/IT are more than anyone has time to listen to so the really important stuff is 3 2 1. Considering I'm prime hurricane target the 1 is real important.

It's important to make the distinction of gen AI vs machine learning vs NPC/enemy "AI". My fear from the beginning is that many useful and valid techniques are being lumped under the umbrella of planet destroying IP theft machines. My moral test is always "where did your training data come from?"

I watched the one that A Brush With Bekah did and it was a really good perspective and very respectively done. Good interviews and she even commissioned artwork and was raving about it. You can tell a lot of genuine effort was put in.

I kept a fully planted tropical aquarium for close to 15 years and had to heat it most of the time. Keep in mind for many plants and creatures in aquaria, stability of all parameters including temperature can be more important than the actual number (within range) so watch/prep for winter temps too.
