Yeah and I tried to include a range of stuff from across different periods of my life - I could easily do 9 from when I was in my 20s, or 9 from my 40s.

Okay, I guess I'll do this, even though I sort of hate ranking music (even in relation to myself).

A poster with 9 album covers - left to right, top to bottom: Cape Goat (Bilge Festival), The Size of Food (JPS Experience), Dirty (Sonic Youth), Robot World (Bailter Space), Zen Arcade (Husker Du), This Taco Is Not Correct (Christian Fitness), Surfer Rosa / Come on Pilgrim (Pixies), Lonesome Crowded West (Modest Mouse), Feelin' Kinda Free (The Drones).

I only came back to them years after they'd become "defunct". Got into their next band (Future of the Left), side project (Christian Fitness) and then Mclusky were no longer defunct again (released a new album last year). Saw them in Wellington the year before covid hit.

Marking assignments on political communication in the news. Lots arguing that people need to think critically about how political issues are communicated while they uncritically go and use press releases from political parties, lobby groups and government departments as examples of journalism.

Somebody added a plaque (it's actually a flimsy piece of plastic that looks real unless you sitting right next to it).

A plastic plaque on a bench (in a grove) that reads "In loving memory, NED SMIT, 2003-2026, Loving son, brother, and drug dealer/"

Now that the electric is going again I have my next project getting the fretless treatment - an Ibanez V50NJP. Got it for $60 at the tip-shop. I haven't done a steel string acoustic before, if it turns out well it will go up for sale this time.

Nice, EH usually have pretty good build quality too. Yeah the hotcake is a great, super solid distortion, really responsive to tone settings. One of my old bassists used to use the Prunes and Custard - he said it made the punk funk and the funk punk.

Scott Common 𓅃 @nocommonswan.bsky.social · 06/09/2026

This is one pedal "on my list" - love EH pedals, admittedly some of that is nostalgia for my old Small Stone. Have you ever investigated any of the Crowther Audio pedals? The Hotcake and Prunes and Custard are his two best known.
