Ellison nails Schutz after he admits he's never taken a case for a client who didn't align w/ his personal views: "It is the job of the AG to defend laws sometimes you don't agree w/ if those laws are constitutional" (Note that Schutz then initially stammers about if abortion access is settled law)

Dr. Esther Boise Van Deman was the first female Roman field archaeologist. In 1907, she revolutionized the field by realizing changing brick & ancient concrete styles could date ruins. Her framework remains the standard for dating Roman monuments today.️ She was born #OTD in 1862. #WomenInSTEM
A formal sepia-toned studio portrait of Dr. Esther Boise Van Deman (1862–1937), the first woman to specialize in Roman field archaeology and the first woman to receive a Ph.D. in Latin from the University of Chicago. Dr. Van Deman is seated, facing forward with her body turned slightly to the left. She gazes directly at the camera with a calm, intelligent, and subtly pleasant expression. Her graying hair is swept upward and meticulously styled into a soft, rolled pompadour bun pinned at the top of her head. She wears an elegant, dark, patterned brocade or jacquard jacket over a lighter silk blouse. The neckline and front cuffs of the outfit are heavily adorned with intricate, wide white lace trimming that adds a formal, dignified texture to her attire. Her right arm curves gently across her lap, showing a hint of lace at the wrist. The lighting is soft and directional, illuminating the side of her face and chest while casting the background into a deep, warm, dark vignette. The composition is balanced and classic, projecting a mood of scholarly authority, refinement, and historic achievement befitting a trailblazer in scientific archaeology.

#Tennis legend Althea Gibson died #OTD in 2003. * First Black player to win a Grand Slam title (1956) & #Wimbledon (1957) * Female Athlete of the Year (AP), 1957 & 1958 * 11 Grand Slam wins * First Black woman to compete on the LPGA Tour, 1964 #SportsHistory
A composite black-and-white image features two historic photographs of Althea Neale Gibson (1927–2003), the trailblazing Black athlete who helped shatter racial barriers in professional sports. On the left, an action shot captures Gibson mid-match on a grass tennis court, charging forward with fierce intensity and physical prowess. She wears a classic, pristine white tennis dress with a pleated skirt billowing around her legs, paired with matching white socks and tennis shoes. Her face is focused in deep concentration as she extends her right arm back, gripping her racket tightly while her left arm balances her athletic frame. An out-of-focus crowd fills the stands in the background. On the right, a triumphant celebration portrait shows Gibson holding the iconic Venus Rosewater Dish after her historic victory at Wimbledon. Shrouded in a heavy white collared track jacket or robe, she beams with an enthusiastic, wide-toothed smile, her short, naturally textured hair neatly styled. In her left hand, she holds a massive, intricately detailed circular silver trophy plate facing the camera, while a massive, vibrant bouquet of celebratory flowers stands at her right hip. An older woman in a wide-brimmed hat smiles warmly from just behind her left shoulder amidst a blurring crowd. The overall mood shifts dynamically from intense, powerful athletic determination to proud, historic joy. This poignant layout encapsulates her barrier-breaking journey to becoming the first Black athlete to win a Grand Slam title.

A full-length photograph of Dr. Wangari Maathai (1940–2011), the renowned Kenyan environmentalist and first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. She stands outdoors, smiling warmly at the camera with her hands gently supporting the stem of a young green sapling growing from the soil, symbolizing her foundational work with the Green Belt Movement. Dr. Maathai is dressed in vibrant traditional African attire, featuring a matching brown and black patterned top and a dynamic patterned skirt block-printed with white, black, and brown geometric motifs. A matching fabric headwrap is beautifully gathered atop her head. She wears a watch on her left wrist. The composition places her centrally within a lush, natural environment filled with green foliage, leafy bushes, and ferns against a soft-focus backdrop of a stone wall. The overarching mood is joyful, inspiring, and hopeful, visually encapsulating her lifetime commitment to community-led conservation, grassroots democracy, and women's rights.

A black-and-white historical portrait of Dr. Maria Montessori (August 31, 1870 – May 6, 1952), the pioneering Italian physician and educator who revolutionized early childhood development by creating the global Montessori method. Photographed later in life, Dr. Montessori stands in a three-quarter turn, looking directly toward the camera with a calm, serene, and intelligent expression, marked by a slight, warm smile. Her graying hair is pulled back softly from her face. She wears a dark, elegantly draped dress or robe featuring a distinctive white-trimmed scalloped collar and a strand of classic pearls around her neck. The fabric of her garment shows subtle pleated detailing on the chest and a delicate speckled pattern on the lower sleeves. The background is softly out of focus, suggesting an indoor or architectural setting near a column or doorway. The lighting is soft and even, casting a dignified and reflective mood over the composition. This iconic image captures the profound warmth and authority of one of the 20th century's most influential educational reformers.
