Last time I re-watched it also struck me how much of the show was a reaction to the failed optimism of the hippies, but also the struggles of the next generation to find something to replace it because they get too cynical, and I think Nate carries a lot of that.

Like, you can’t have a fun argument about who she should chose because they’re both so fundamental nice. The fun is in arguing why she should chose someone because of/despite their flaws! (Ethan Hawke in Reality Bites, Logan in Veronica Mars, Jess in Gilmore Girls, Mr. Big, etc.)

Only issue with Sterling Point, a great show, is that it’s so committed to making both of the love-boys decent (admirable goal!) they’ve lost the tension necessary to make them represent life paths for the protagonist, which is what points in a love triangle should be. Let teens be problematic!

My mom was supposed to head out there last week for a long stay (she’s from Gary) and had no idea how bad it was there until I found out from a friend who also has family there. It’s terrible.
