"They will need time to feel comfortable with flowers." Finally read this, what a treat! Might not work for everyone, but I wholeheartedly reccomend it to anyone who needs something somber and hopeful. #booksky #readsky #readingcommunity

Never would I have thought to put one of the more disturbing passages from Annihilation into Lemon Grab's voice and it works too well 🤣 Now I'm imagining the whole book as an episode of Adventure Time

Wrote a short piece on The Castle of Otranto, the first gothic novel. I've been reading through classic horror lit for the last five years, now I'm writing about it. Check it out here: fearsoftheforebears.substack.com/p/the-castle... #booksky #gothic #writing

Sometimes good things happen! For those who don't know @scottdrakeford.com wrote a good book, then his publisher shafted him with a bad cover, a worse title, then left him to dry. So happy to see it get re-published. Can't wait to swap my copy of "Rise of the Mages" for "Ire" #booksky

Just found out a short horror play I wrote a while back is going to be performed at my local theater! I'm freaking out and trying to fit the rehearsals into my schedule. I'm overjoyed but I truly did not expect this. Gonna be tough to work around! #booksky #HorrorAuthor #writing

Rewatched Rocky Horror Picture Show last night and got unexpectedly hit in the feels at this part. Also, how did I never notice before that the life preserver is from the titanic?!? #timcurry
Dr. Frankenfurter floats in a life preserver singing "Don't Dream it, Be it."

I had no idea Tim Curry was in this! Time to revisit a notably weird entry in the seventh gen console library.

Tim Curry as Long John Silver was an indelible part of my childhood. Discovering his camp films and learning that the conservative adults in my life were afraid of Rocky Horror helped me realize which side of things I wanted to stand on. Tim Curry will be missed. That LAUGH will be missed!

Have you ever picked up a horror novel in your favorite niche or subgenre only for it to disappoint by doing it all wrong? Well I wrote a little rant about that specific experience and what it means here: substack.com/home/post/p-...

Finally setup a personal website and a Substack to start getting my fiction and essays out in the open. Here's a short piece I did the other day complaining about the horror sections in small bookstores: fearsoftheforebears.substack.com/p/stocking-t... #booksky #writing #horror

I had a good time at the launch of the Phoenixville Poet's Society first zine. It was great to see how much of the community showed up to support it.

What an amazing collage of four separate pieces of media that haunt my nightmares! I think we all remember Watership Down and Donnie Darko but If you haven't already, please watch Rabbits by David Lynch and read Dead, But Dreaming of Electric Sheep by Paul Tremblay.

I had an amazing time at the Black Belt Theatre event hosted by @gradyhendrix.bsky.social and Chris Poggiali: 6+ hours of kung fu movie bliss! Meeting Hendrix was a delight and I got my copies of his books signed! Check out These Fists Break Bricks for an amazing history of the genre. #booksky

My drabble "Cold Coffee Comfort" will be up on 101words.org next week on 9/12. Drabbles are a fun excercise and I'm always impressed at what a good writer can do with just 100 words, or in this case, 101.

Book club at the Reads & Company bookstore was fantastic as always. This month we read Disco Witches of Fire Island by @blairfell.bsky.social We all loved it! It's so much more optimistic and uplifting than I expected. Now I just want a complete copy of the Disco Witch Manifesto!

Popped into a small bookstore at the mall. They had a really nice local author display with a whole shelf for the shop owner's books (nice perk). Love to see it. #booksky #writing

Just finished Fevre Dream by #GeorgeR.R.Martin If you like classic vampire tales or 19th century America as a setting, you owe it to yourself to read this one. I'd force everyone to read it if I could, but in the words of Abner Marsh, "We all got to make our goddamned choices!" #bookquotes

At Read&Company I saw the paperback of Someone You Can Build a Nest In by @wiswell.bsky.social. I had gifted my hardback copy, so I had to buy it again for my shelf. I can't recommend this book enough. As a horror fanatic, as an asexual, as an aspiring author, it means so much to me. #queerhorror

I stopped at the one phenomenal Reads and Company bookstore and picked up Stag Dance by @torreypeters.bsky.social for a book club at the end of the month. I read Detransition, Baby a few years ago at it blew my mind! Very excited for this! #booksky

Got up to take #5amWritersClub literally and work on my book for a an hour or two before the day begins. But the dog is asleep in the room and the lights or computer would wake him, so I guess I'm just writing bad poems in the dark until he's up :)
The low light setting on my phone sucks so here's a sPoOkY black and white

I ended #independentbookstoreday at Reads and Company, a real treasure in downtown Phoenixville.
Amazing bookstore in the always wonderful Pheonixville downtown. For Independent Bookstore Day, all customers get to play plinko for free goodies.Reads & Company does a lot of monthly bookclubs. I'm very tempted to pick up Stag Dance by Torrey Peters for their May book club.

Happy Independent Bookstore Day! I stopped by Wellington Square Books and picked up a copy of Tom Lake by Ann Patchett.
Cute shop in one of those weird shopping plazas in the middle of an upscale development that emulate the look of a downtown areaI was jump scared by the fountain when I walked in.Are the library ladders necessary? Not really. Are they cute? Yes. Did they get the **** in my way? Also yes. I keep getting recommended Bel Canto by a friend so I picked this up to spite them. Same author same difference right? Right?

Happy Independent Bookstore Day! I started at a cute store called Bookmarks where they had a nice display of works by local authors.
Very cozy vibes here, but like, not enough books, ya know?Love a local author display!I love that Bookmarks is housed in one of our old buildings downtown.

Just finished When the Moon Hits Your Eye by @scalzi.com as well as most of the brie the house! The poignant vignettes of the book's MANY POVs are what carried me through to the end. It's an easy recommendation for those who need some catharsis while we deal with our own absurd circumstances.

Just finished The Beast You Are by @paultremblay.bsky.social I loved it! It has some very Evenson-like stories, fun tie-ins with A Head Full Ghosts, and the whole collection feels very personal. I just started When the Moon Hits Your Eye by @scalzi.com They couldn't be more different, what delights!

I found myself, as I often do, at an author event at the midtown scholar. @scalzi.com blew the crowd away! The level of storytelling he accomplished with a microphone in an hour was more engrossing and entertaining than most books I've read this year. Color me an instant fan.
Scalzi performed several readings including "Wil Wheaton, Croc Hunter"Scalzi explained that requesting a 2L coke instead of a 12oz water is perfectly normal.

A year ago I started writing my first trunk novel. I'm so pleased to report that the thing now has a begin, middle, and end. Its still no good, but I can't help feeling like this was a crucial milestone on my writing journey. To anyone who is attempting the same for the first time: keep on writing!
