In 2018, Suella Braverman insisted post-Brexit Britain would not row back on equality laws and praised measures in the Equality Act: "Our gender pay gap reporting requirements and our public sector equality duty are world-leading initiatives that go beyond EU law in many ways."

In 2018, Heidi Alexander (then London's deputy mayor for transport) told the London Assembly that Heathrow expansion "would expose hundreds of thousands more people to worsening air quality and adverse noise impacts". Now she says a third runway has "transformational potential"

I also asked Jenkyns about climate change, which she says is the result of "natural cycles". Asked whether there is anything unusual about record-high temperatures over recent years, she told me "things can be presented in certain ways". What does this mean for Lincolnshire?

Sadiq Khan tells @thelondonstandard.bsky.social lessons will be learnt from Heathrow substation fire. Asked how it was possible for a single substation to put the airport out of action, he says it is “important we don’t speculate on the various power entry points into Heathrow”

Why has shoplifting in London risen by 50% in the year to Sep 2024, when the increase across England and Wales in the same period was only 22%? Mayor says: 1.) “Because we have a lot of shops here” 2.) Cost of living is worse in London, which leads to more “acquisitive crime”

Sadiq Khan tells me a third runway at Heathrow would undermine his efforts to clean up London’s air. He also warns it would worsen UK net carbon emissions and noise disturbances for west Londoners.

Will Sir Sadiq Khan attend the opening of the Silvertown Tunnel in April, and is he excited about it? He says Londoners “should be incredibly proud” of the project, and insists - despite the controversy around it - it is a “great piece of infrastructure”.
