Something AI is responsible for that doesn't get enough talk: How, when it scrapes a website to illegally steal everything on it, it uses up a ton of its bandwidth allotment, crashing it or racking up massive fees for site owners.

when people talk about what they use ai for, it's either like, something you absolutely shouldn't (medical advice), something that makes everyone elses job harder (emails) or it's glaringly obvious that they never really learned how to use a search engine or utility stuff like ctrl + f

a little bit of #worldbuilding today bc I'm finally quite satisfied with the map I have for basically all things happening in #HeirsToTheCrown, the comic I'm writing atm! almost all of the plot happens in Yashida but it's still fun to dig into the different other cultures & have dignitaries etc

A political map of parts of a fantasy world. The central continent is almost island shaped and the southern continent borders the bottom of the map and is only partially visible. The central continent is connected to a northern continent via a landbridge but the northern continent is barely on the map.

Let's talk a bit about reading! I used to be a big bookworm, but I think I'm more of a book butterfly these days that perches on a book for a bit only to forget to pick it up again for a month.

live better, get a mechanical keyboard and then turn the spacebar upside down

a picture of a keyboard with a spacebar flipped. this makes it incline upwards. a thumb with a smily face is happily resting on it next to the words "Gentle" and "smooth"

A keyboard that does not have the spacebar flipped. The angle is outlined in red next to the words "oof owie ouch"

How much can you write in just one #WASummerCamp? I got 10 new articles, 8 drafts and 6 outlines with at least 300 words on each, plus eight mini articles (stubs) 💃 screenshots all taken from: www.worldanvil.com/w/solaris-nn...

A screenshot showing four completed summer camp articles, two auxilliary articles, and six different stubs.

almost touching

Illustration of two regency women in a garden. One caresses the cheek of the other with a gloved hand. The other woman leans into it, blushing. Inspired by Austen, but make it sapphic / gay.

[vague indirect spoilers for The Mermaid Mask] These are moodboards I made during the casting process, to try and get across the general vibes I had in my head for each character. (I deliberately gave too many suggestions, so the actors wouldn't just imitate one thing) 1/2

Singaporean artist Leia Ham reimagined LotR as Tale of the Middle Kingdom, since Chinese name for China (Zhōngguó) means "The Middle Kingdom." Her concept art includes the Fellowship, armors, buildings like Bag End, props like Aragorn's banner and Fellowship brooches, and more. #TolkienTrewsday

An illustration of the Fellowship, reimagined with Chinese-style period outfits.

An illustration of armors of Gondor, Rohan, and Rivendell Elves, reimagined using different periods of Chinese armors as concepts. On the top right are three side profiles of Rohan man, Gondorian, and Elf with different Chinese hairstyles. On the bottom right is Aragorn's banner redrawn with Chinese influence.

A concept art of Bag End reimagined as Chinese court houses, with tall stone gates, round wooden doors, curved roofs, and open courtyard, nestled in a hill.

A concept art of Rivendell in the style of Chinese painting. Next to it are several props drawn in Chinese style such as Fellowship brooch based on gingko leaves, lembas in the shape of mooncake, Elfstone as round jade, Galadriel's phial in a green jade bottle, and shards of Narsil.

The first time I played dnd I made my dex-based character use a str-based weapon, because I wanted her to learn how to fight smarter not harder over the course of the campaign. Little did I know the prewritten campaign, and the system itself, is out for the blood of first level characters

It's Pride Month, so once again here's Sappho's Reply, one of the most powerful queer poems ever. Written by Rita Mae Brown at the height of the post-Stonewall struggles, it's the origin of "an army of lovers shall not fail/cannot lose." Y'all, we are going to win.

A photo of Rita Mae Brown's poem "Sappho's Reply"

"My voice rings down through thousands of years
To coil around your body and give you strength,
You who have wept in direct sunlight,
Who have hungered in invisible chains,
Tremble to the cadence of my legacy:
An army of lovers shall not fail."

our local indie bookstore had the translations of the classics that i wanted in stock, and i may have also picked up a few extra 🥰

Five new books, two books from the Kanon: Antiquities Literature in Norwegian (Ovid's Metamorphoses trans. Thea Selliaas Thorsen and Apollonios' Argonautica trans. Ulvhild Anastasia Namtvedt Fauskanger), as well as Ovid's Ars Amandi (trans. Thea Selliaas Thorsen), Alice Oswald's Memorial and the collected works of Gunvor Hofmo.

I've got Emily Wilson's translation of the Iliad, and I need to get my hands on the Odyssey, and I just learned that Thea Selliaas Thorsen translated a lot of Ovid's poetry to norwegian. Now I'm itching to dedicate a shelf to classics translated by women.
