Boooo. I did try and get it back once. I wonder if we could still make that work. chriscoyier.net/2024/02/28/w... I’m down to find a win-win situation, DO. Call me. 🤙

Where I’m at on the whole CSS-Tricks thing
It was March 2022 when I sold CSS-Tricks to DigitalOcean. So it’s been just about 2 years now. This was me and my wife’s thinking: The negotiated sale price was fair. They are a big com…

I’ve often tried to work around CSS limitations by trying to defer the computation but it doesn’t work! Thankfully the need for such workarounds is going away.

My entire last year has been spent trying different alternatives. Solid2 isn’t stable or it would be very promising. Octane is currently evolving rapidly.

Honestly, fair. And tbf, that’s why we went out of our way to make sure it works beyond React. It Works with Astro for example.

So what you mean is you don’t like style of CSS tooling. You like different syntax. Sure. Use what you like. Make the tooling that you want to see.

Thank you! I’m also happy to be finally using StyleX at my job.

I want to use BlueSky but the app has been absolutely unusable today. It takes 10s of seconds to send a simple reply. Notifications are showing up an hour late or not at all. The simple following timeline is taking minutes to load. What’s going on?

On a personal note, I put in years of my time and effort into StyleX so of course it feels good to have people use it and appreciate it. It’s also not right for everyone and there’s absolutely no intention to “gain marketshare”. So, would really appreciate if you didnt come at this with hostility

The Avatar Aang movie was alright but they took the amazing voice acting of the original and replaced everyone and the voice acting was fairly weak. Also, the climax was weak, ngl. The spirit world concept is very underbaked in the universe.

My best and most popular CSS trick ever! I made it for the Facebook website a few years ago. Haven’t used it once since

I’d love to see what this model is like on “medium”. Xhigh is clearly overkill, but “off” feels punitive.

Oh crap. Something is off on this Pen but I KNOW I had it working correctly last night. Just revert to that version, no big deal. (And you can check it out and confirm first.)

Here's my simple tip: Create a Brewfile and always use "brew bundle install" That way you always have a list of everything you install. 2. You can even use the brewfile for vscode extensions or rust packages. 3. Startship is a good CLI prompt

The big news here is that there’s no unstyled components at its core. No radix, base-UI or react-aria. Just simple, minimal components with everything you need. Which means you can edit everything too.

I’ve been building the component library (like shadcn/ui) for @stylexjs.com the way I’ve always wanted. stylextras.nmn.sh - assumes stylex - simple single file components - built with web features - minimal JS - accessible - theme-able - copy-paste-able

StyleXtras — Native-first StyleX components
Tokenized React components built on modern browser APIs and styled with StyleX.

Nice. Sounds very promising. I'm hunting for TextKit equivalents for windows, Linux and Android. If I find those I might even be able to make my editor cross platform.

One is a text editor of sorts so probably a bit of an extreme case but there's others a lot simpler. Think RSS reader levels of complexity

Can confirm. Works great. Yes: It's nice to test a non-chrome browser to avoid accidentally depending on chrome-only stuff But: it's only available with safari tech preview for now…

My understanding is that the users got used to scrollbars on the right before anyone started taking RTL seriously. And now they like it that way. Scrollbars being on the right is kinda arbitrary anyway.
000
Nmn @nmn.sh · 21/07/2026
Yes. This is all expected. The only thing users don't expect to flip is the scroll bar. RTL language users have learned to expect the scroll bar to remain on the right even when EVERYTHING else is flipped.

stylextras.nmn.sh will eventually be an official release. Intentionally builds all components from the ground up to be lighter weight and use modern standards. It's mostly ready, but needs more a11y work.

Reminder: the voice models are really dumb.

Nmn @nmn.sh · 07/07/2026
Solid-start 2 is impressive but a waste of time because they should put all their time and effort into supporting Solid2 instead. Any new improvements should all focus on Solid2. Solid 2 is so much better than 1 that any delay in making that awesome is a missed opportunity.

What do you mean by docs "service"? Compared to things like Docusaurus, Vitepress, Fumapress etc?
000
Nmn @nmn.sh · 03/07/2026
Best explanation I've seen. But also it doesn't really distinguish from the fediverse which is also just rss with comments. In fact that's probably closer to rss with comments.

Wired has non-stop bangers when it comes to headlines. But about half the times the actual article is like 5x longer than it needs to be and reading it becomes a test of my patience. 404 does better by comparison

Gotta right about it but using at-scope for defining color schemes crazy good as well. There's a workaround with container style queries but scope has better browser support already

It sounds right at first but digging into it a tiny bit and it's very easy to argue against the "no obvious blunders" part. There have been a bunch of blunders. On policy the blunder was inaction. But there much bigger PR blunders.
