Johnny’s leg wouldn’t stop bouncing as the transport slowed, landing gear activating and the hard ‘thunk’ of the engine shifting rang through the space. Nik had leaned into the cargo bay about an hour ago, telling them to prepare for a quick landing as he got direct orders from Price to be on the ground before 2100. The captain wasn't beating any of the ‘old man' allegations by commanding a homecoming conveniently half an hour before his usual ‘bedtime’. Gaz tried to head his head on straight, listing out a few key details he needed to add to his report when he got out of debrief… and after he smothered his boyfriend for a while…. Maybe debrief could wait….

“C’mon, c’mon, c’mon, cannae thi’ thing go any faster? Need tae be grounded liek noo.” Johnny muttered to himself, forgetting his comms were still live through his headphones.

“I could kill the engines. That would get us down quicker.” Nik’s rough near-growl filtered through their ears.

“An’ tha’ woid kill us, ye numpty. Joo’ git oos doon safe.”

“Don’t mind him, Nik. He’s just eager to get back to his handler.” Gaz glances over at the Scot just in time to dodge a disgruntled slap to his shoulder.

The two grumble to each other, not really having the energy to waste on each other. Still, Johnny’s leg bounced, and Gaz’s mind wandered further from work and closer to a pair of scarred thighs and a pale belly. He smiled to himself, suddenly feeling the urgency his best friend had as well. Ghost and the captain didn’t join them on this long, unfortunate mission. John was nursing a bullet graze to the calf, and Simon was on med leave for the next six months until he’d be sent home for his parental leave. Gaz couldn’t wait for that, to be able to dote and love on the man without having to maintain appearances on base. Price and the rest of 141 were the only ones they had told; Simon was not comfortable with the whole base knowing he was trans, let alone pregnant with his sergeant's baby.

A WIP from Day One, Bottom Ghost Week 2026. This is a flashback.
it reads:
“What do you need, Simon? From me?”

“Just you; I think we’ve covered the feelings part of this.”

“We have. I’m yours, Simon, no doubt or hesitation.”

“And I’m yours. Always have been...”

The blush on the blond’s face was beautiful. It took everything John had not to rush the lad then and there, but that’s not why they were here. They needed to talk. John still didn’t fight the smile on his lips; Simon looked so concentrated, the fine lines around his eyes creasing as he thought. The sniper shifted, squaring his shoulders a bit and raising his eyes to John’s.

“I don’t know what I want this to be; I don’t know how I want it to go, but it can’t be one-sided. I’m not looking to be a housewife.” Simon grunted out the words low as if it was a real fear of his.

John scoffs, then hums softly. The idea of anyone having the balls to suggest The Simon “Ghost” Riley be anything but the deadly clever individual sitting in front of him is laughable at best. Simon rolls his eyes at his captain for the light chuckle that slipped from his lips.

“I’ve never been one for white picket fences and ankle biters, Lad,” John assures him.

It reads:
Simon’s hands are covered in blood, but it doesn’t stick. The electricity coursing through his body hitting him full force like a punch to the gut. Sharp burning kinds of pain erupt from every overstimulated nerve as his hand instinctually grips the wire tighter, muscles unable to relax enough to let go. Somewhere through the pain, he feels both shoulders dislocate as his knees give out just enough to retch his body down towards the ground a few feet more. He hears a shot ring out somewhere below him, and another, and another. He hears himself scream once, on impact, and then his vision starts to swim. His heart skips before kicking into overdrive as it races at the current running through his spine and makes his legs go numb.

The hands on his waist barely register as his body is pulled down so he’s hanging upside down. Those same hands move to his mask, pulling it off of his face just enough to expose his mouth and nose. The smell of burning flesh is acrid and familiar. His ears are ringing, something in his gut is sloshing around and it feels like his brain is melting. He feels weightless for a moment, then the pressure stops, the burning fades minutely and his mind falls into what could only be described as a drowning silence. He barely feels the voltage anymore.
