Rutgers found a new antibiotic, MGC-10, inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis by targeting the EF-Tu:tRNA. It is effective against a broad range of AMR Gram+ including MRSA. Although it's too toxic for systemic use and is proposed as a potential topical treatment. journals.asm.org/doi/full/10....

Improved Broad Spectrum Antifungal Drug Synergies with Cryptomycin, a Cdc50-Inspired Antifungal Peptide Robert J. Tancer, Siddhi Pawar, Yina Wang, Cristina R. Ventura, Gregory Wiedman, and Chaoyang Xue ACS Infectious Diseases 2024 10 (11), 3973-3993 pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...
An antifungal peptide, Cryptomycinamide (KKOO-NH2), derived from a 9-amino acid segment of the C. neoformans Cdc50 protein. A fungal killing assay indicated that KKOO-NH2 is fungicidal against C. neoformans. The peptide has antifungal activity against multiple major fungal pathogens with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 8 μg/mL against C. neoformans and Candida glabrata, 16 μg/mL against Candida albicans and C. auris, and 32 μg/mL against Aspergillus fumigatus.
