Bowen is way too good for the championship, and Pierce Charles is going to be in the Prem very soon. Great match

How We Define Progressive Passes Matters a Lot
Discussing what a progressive pass even is, which definition of progressive passes is my favorite, why that is, and testing some methods for better understanding player passing.

Over the last couple years I’ve kind of come to the opinion that you can have the best patterns in the world, but if the technical level is too low it doesn’t matter that much. That’s what happened to the Ange Tottenham teams

This analysis is excellent, with some interesting data points for the sharp-eyed DC fan. Chatted with Nate a bit. Seems pretty clear that DC has been working on corners as the season goes on. Also pretty clear that Barlett is consistently dangerous, if we can get him better service.

There’s a chance it’s just variance over a small sample. I’m a huge fan (even before I did this analysis) of getting first contact as close to goal as you can. It might be that DC, Colorado, and Dallas have gotten some bad bounces and will regress positively. Can’t really give an indication yet

There’s a chance it’s an issue with my xg model, which is not nearly as good as the ones pro teams have access to these days. Happy to watch the last few matches and report back if you want tho.

This is some absolute great analysis from Nate, who’s been cranking out some good content lately. The point of contact zones was super interesting to me; how close are teams contacting the ball in relation to the goal (which seems trainable). Highly recommend the read
