i finally watched Welcome to Raccoon City last night. not much more to say besides actually insane career trajectory that the actress from a failed reboot who only appears in a post-credit scene is now the main, Prime continuity voice of iconic Resident Evil character Ada Wong

nyxiii — 12:50 PM
realized u could probably use the same justification to call the fifth film Extinction instead. or u could call The Final Chapter extinction if i actually cared about it, seeing as i believe it's actually in that one we learn Umbrella's true goal is to drive humanity basically to extinction
similar joke about these films' cultural relevance and Anderson's career going somewhat extinct

010

Nyxi 🔆🍉 @nixashearts.cafe · 25/08/2026

here's the remaining two entries with alt text

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter
The Final Chapter of W.S. Anderson's career and ability to ever touch the Resident Evil franchise ever again.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City
Resident Evil
Why does your first movie get a subtitle and not the actual good Resident Evil movie! While it does include the Raccoon City Incident taking place concurrently, it actually also depicts the Mansion Incident for the first time in film, taking place in the Arklay Mountains outside the city, as seen in the original Resident Evil as well as its 2001 remake.

010

Nyxi 🔆🍉 @nixashearts.cafe · 25/08/2026

blah blah blah, the Star Wars movies all have the wrong names, it makes more sense this way - you know what franchise ACTUALLY has its subtitles all mixed up? the Resident Evil films, baby

I think I ran out of alt text space, sorry folks. Not sure how this will actually appear.

Spreadsheet of how I would swap around the titles of the Resident Evil movies. Split into three columns - Original Title, The Title It SHOULD Have, and Reasoning.

Resident Evil
Resident Evil: Genesis
Stolen from the novelization. It's kinda just cooler, and given that this film isn't a direct adaptation of other RE media, it establishes this as something a little different. Doesn't matter a ton, though.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City
Doesn't actually depict the Apocalypse - just the Raccoon City Incident. Anderson decided after that the T-Virus would become a global outbreak. Alice awakens and escapes from captivity, only to find the outbreak-in-progress, 28 Days Later style - a rude welcome if there ever was one.

Resident Evil: Extinction
Resident Evil: Afterlife
Humanity is not on the brink of extinction - there are millions, if not billions of survivors still left at this point in the timeline. What it does depict is the "Afterlife" of the global T-Virus outbreak.

Resident Evil: Afterlife
Resident Evil: Retribution
I don't really know why this one was called Afterlife to begin with. If it was in reference to the survivors finally trying to rebuild, this is immediately undermined by the note the film ends on (one of the rare cases of Anderson planning ahead). While it has nowhere near the amount of weight due to this being Chris' first appearance, this film depicts Chris vs. Wesker as seen in Resident Evil 5. Alice does have history with Wesker - they finally take him out (or so it would seem, for now), making this her retribution for all he has done.

Resident Evil: Retribution
Resident Evil: Apocalypse
An all-out attack by Umbrella's forces brings humanity to its knees. Perfectly coincides the cliffhanger the movie ends upon, and befitting the first of what should been the epic two-part finale.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (same …

another day, another nixashearts resident evil 2 remake hot take hittin ur screens i truly would just like to talk more with people who enjoy the remakes and understand where they're coming from (especially folks who also enjoy the originals)

nyxi — 4:22 PM
honestly speaking. it really pisses me off that the REmakes set the precedent that it's okay to like, completely alter themes of the original work in a remake
and people just eat that up
i know this is something that happens in movies all the time but i really haven't seen it a ton with games, and when it has, it's gotten a ton of backlash
and like i can see the hypocrisy argument coming a mile away with how much i eat up the FF7 Remakes and love those, but like, dude the FF7 Remakes actually keep the themes intact. if anything they're trying to be louder about it because there's clearly a shit ton of environmentalists at Square and they've been screaming about our treatment of the Earth in basically every FF game since the 90s and we're still on a collision course with climate disaster

RE7 official concept art. on the left is are early designs for Ethan Winters, including him holding a picture of Mia up on his phone. on the right is an early design for Mia Winters, in which she is a lot more unkempt (even without the Mold taking over) than in the final game.

early re2 remake thoughts...... i can't keep getting away with this......

nyxi — Yesterday at 10:16 AM
i can't keep being this much of a fucking hipster man
fuck
i'm trying so hard to stay open minded and connect with Resident Evil 2 Remake but it's just not hitting with me so far
i keep thinking about how RE2 1998 just pulled me in immediately as you walk through the door of the RPD and this one just hasn't
the atmosphere should be there from the get go
i get that its in service of giving him an arc but i feel like having Leon see that there's a survivor the moment he arrives (and then obv going and failing to save them) and coming back and Marvin is just there is just kind of a misstep
i wanna be piecing together what the fuck happened here, i want to wonder if there are other survivors, i want it to feel like this place devoid of life is the last bastion between Leon/Claire and the horrors occurring outside
it's also just. not very scary
i feel like this should have had a first person mode
and by extension a VR mode
i will obviously keep it going and let them cook but just urgh man
i really wanted to enjoy this return to Raccoon City but i just keep seeing all the things Resident Evil isn't anymore
