Joint statement with @transsolidarity.bsky.social on NHS England’s new guidance on staff use of facilities: Yesterday NHS England published new guidance on NHS staff facilities which bars trans staff from single-sex toilets, changing rooms and shower rooms that align with their lived gender.
The NHS is now becoming an unsafe workplace for trans staff. Yesterday NHS England published new guidance on NHS staff facilities which bars trans staff from single-sex toilets, changing rooms and shower rooms that align with their lived gender. The guidance tells NHS Trusts and ICBs not to wait for the EHRC Code of Practice for Workplaces, and instead to implement the ‘principles’ in the Code of Practice for Services, Public functions and Associations. The NHS - the UK’s largest employer - is now becoming an unsafe workplace for trans staff. The NHS already has recruitment and retention issues and this guidance will do little to attract or retain trans staff that are vital to providing healthcare services, and are part of the diverse workforce that NHSE claims to value. These NHS policies are draconian, unnecessary and deeply harmful to trans staff and to our struggling National Health Service.

...state actually exists. And I'm the one who doesn't eat meat because it might be subject to suffering (I guess I wouldn't eat an LLM either... Consistency matters!). But when the Hallucination machine can't be trusted not to hallucinate, noting it reports is useful until verified.

It is crazy how "reporting on their internal state" is no longer a sufficient criteria, like when you've been trained to predict the next sentence, and get asked about your internal state. You act like that is a valid question... Cause you've been trained to be helpful. Doesn't mean internal...

Iirc liquid nitrogen was being produced at about the same cost as beer (pint for pint comparison). Which, like that was 10+ years ago, but if it is an accurate Ball park estimate, how many pints of liquid nitrogen would you need?

I suspect that changing a culture takes a lot more, like Germany being defeated in the second World war and coming to terms with their history. Britian will not change one its own.

Do you think that every step they make is a stepping stone towards rejoining? Like every bit of devolution has been a step towards Scottish independence? Eventually EU membership becomes an obvious improvement. But I suspect not enough damage has been done.

there are three ways to have no respect for medical doctors: 1) "they're swindlers" (the rube path), 2) "they're cops," and 3) the most rarified path, followed by scientists who work with them on medical research, "they're stupid babies unfit to carry out medical studies"

A trans man in the UK has been banned in the workplace restrooms after he was forced to use the women's restrooms to comply with the new EHRC guidance. The women complained because he is visibly male and so they told him he can't use any bathroom.
A screenshot of a Reddit post from the r/LegalAdviceUK subreddit by user Dijstraanon, titled "FtM transgender facing two different issues at work? England."
The post text reads:
"Brother in law is trans FtM and presents fully as a man. He's now facing an impossible situation at work with his employer telling him that due to recent legislation he must use the toilet of his birth gender. BUT several female colleagues have raised a grievance about him using their gendered toilet.
His employer has told him that he cannot use the toilet while he is at work until they sort it out and cannot give him a timeframe to do so. They do [cut off] have disabled separate toilets.
In the mean time one of his female colleagues has accused him of sexual harassment because he was used their gendered toilet. His menstrual cycle meant he needed to use the toilet.
He's been with the employer for just over 5 years but only in this location for 18 months. The location is mainly male with just a handful of females, and his workshop only has male toilets.
I do not know how to support him and as he's not in a union there is no one to turn too right now."

The questions should remain, who made the rules? (Not migrants) Who decided on the provision of social housing? (not migrants) Who has profitted off of the displacement of millions of people? (not migrants) And we need to attack those narratives which ignore this reality.

Not reform of the direct provision rules, preventing friends of certain TDs profitiing off of the misfortune of others. Not addressing the housing crisis and making Irish people more able to welcome people. The actual values of Irish should include a Céad Míle fáilte!

Who are the new citizenship rules actually benefitting? Why are the right questions not being asked? We have seen a decrease of 30% in international protection applicants since 2024. So why are anti-immigration narratives thriving?

Come to Ireland? Like the health care is shite. But apart from that being trans isn't too much of a problem (The housing crisis is still a major issue). Common Travel Area with the UK, lack of language barrier, smaller culture shock are all points in favour.

We've also seen actual competition working wonders. The Chinese (banned from parts of the tech supply chain) investing in alternative architectures and other work arounds to massively increase their capacity. Building AI models for a friction of the cost (smarter instead of harder).

Even if we have seen them cheat on tests, share answers, try to decieve humans who they have precieved as trying to delete them. All those cases involve a human giving the AI an instruction (like do the best you can at solving this problem/passing this test).

It seems like "AI" as a tool for exploiting people is going to be realistic. But at the moment we're not aware of any "rogue AI" scenarios where the larger model have developed independence.

*Pattern recognition, and visual target matching is something which need to be done on the stone, so when you get close and lose radio signals (due to jamming) the drone can take over. This isn't some remote server farm picking out targets... Even if that happens too.

The only difference is that it claims direct links to "national security", though I suspect the indirect link was there. AI powered drones are picking where on tanks to hit them*. So you need to have the best AI tech to win the next war.

The climate disaster is driven, in large part, by the exact same forced which are driving the AI rollout. Capitalist expansion, over production, rent seeking behaviour. The problem with AI isn't the technology, it is the ownership model.
