Back out on the @ldnloop-capring.bsky.social today, a gorgeous ramble from Hayes & Harlington to Uxbridge mostly along the Grand Union Canal. I was expecting to be enjoying some autumnal walks by now, not sweating through summer walks! #LondonLoop

Incredibly cathartic evening of comedy courtesy of @nishkumar.bsky.social at the Hackney Empire this evening. If like me, you’re a lefty liberal who often finds themselves screaming into the void at the state of this country then I’m sure you’ll have a grand old time. #NishKumar

Fantastic evening at @roughtraderecords.bsky.social seeing a DJ set from #Bonobo for his sublime new album ‘Distance in Static’. I’ve wanted to see him live for years and he did not disappoint.

I love seeing people being really good at their jobs so seeing Jay Z last night was a real treat. No fuss, no bloat, just 2hrs of back to back, perfectly curated bangers with a surprise appearance by The Fugees being the absolute cherry on top. #JayZ30 #London

And here's my write up on Section 10 of @ldnloop-capring.bsky.social, it's an unremarkable section with a couple of highlights but it is making me realise just how much I miss the hustle and bustle of the city. nikmortimer.substack.com/p/london-loo...? #LondonLoop

My #FlashInvaders white whale has been LDN_14, which has been hidden under scaffolding in Piccadilly Circus for nearly a year. The scaffolding has finally started to come down, creating an opportunity to scan it and ‘complete’ my London #invaderwashere set. At least until the next wave arrives.

Chose a rainy day to tackle Section 10 of the @ldnloop-capring.bsky.social. Not much too this section really, mostly escaping the clutches of Heathrow Airport via the Grand Union Canal. Did enjoy getting to see the Speedbird logo at Hatton Cross though, made my inner aviation nerd happy. #LondonLoop

#TheCinemaMuseum is at risk of closure and needs support. It's a wonderfully eccentric collection of vintage cinema paraphernalia that transports you to a bygone era of movie going. I wrote about my experience of touring it, I can't recommend going enough. nikmortimer.substack.com/p/the-cinema...

Thanks to the wonderful @princecharlescinema.com I finally ticked Tampopo off of my list of shame with packed late-night Saturday crowd. How a Japanese film celebrating the joys of ramen has eluded me for so long I'll never know. More musing over on @letterboxd.social - letterboxd.com/nikmortimer/

Finally got around to writing up my thoughts of this very hot and sweaty ramble through Section 9 of the #LondonLoop. Thankfully I did. There’s also a lovely coffee stand underneath Shot Tower in Crane Park that sold homemade iced tea and slushies that were both very much needed!

A 10 mile hike in 30c heat wasn’t my best idea but that’s Section 9 of the @ldnloop-capring.bsky.social completed. A gloriously sweaty ramble from Kingston to Hatton. As an aviation nerd getting to walk under the Heathrow flight path was an absolute treat. @gojauntly.bsky.social #LondonLoop.

open.substack.com/pub/nikmorti... Sections 7 & 8 of the @ldnloop-capring.bsky.social are a step up from Section 6 (helped by the weather!) but still pretty middle of the road until you rejoin the Thames in Kingston, immediately pulling you back into the throngs London after 58 miles of countryside.

After getting rained off last week, I took advantage of the gorgeous weather to tick off Sections 7 & 8 of the @ldnloop-capring.bsky.social. A gorgeous 13m walk along the Hogsmill River. Happy to see the Thames again having not seen it since Erith. Now a 1/3 way through the Loop, only 100m to go!

That's tomorrow's job, just get through it. The Capital Ring had similar sections and I've learnet that every section isn't going to be perfect. I've just been spoiled by the Loop thus far.

The weather effected my feelings of Section 6 of the @ldnloop-capring.bsky.social but the beauty of long form writing means I get to articulate myself properly! My least favourite section so far, one of those sections that's clearly a bridge to get you from A to B: open.substack.com/pub/nikmorti...

Woefully underprepared for how wet and windy it was going to be today but I’m behind my schedule on the the @ldnloop-capring.bsky.social so wanted to get out regardless and tick off Section 6. Not as exciting as previous sections but some beautiful countryside to ramble through.

I got to spend a day in #Ghent too, such a gorgeous gothic town. Much smaller than Brussels making it easy to amble around in a day, absolutely worth it for the architecture alone.

Had a thoroughly lovely long weekend ambling around #Brussels thanks to a cheap Eurostar ticket. I’d never put much thought into going but the architecture, art, food and of course, beer make it an easy recommend.

It's worth noting that Farthing Downs is where the @ldnloop-capring.bsky.social began. 30 years ago this week, on May 3rd 1996 a small ceremony was held there to mark the first complete section of the Loop opening which would later become Section 6, Coulsdon South to Banstead.

Popped back to the Triple Trouble exhibition at Newport Street Gallery before it ends tomorrow. It’s a collaboration between Invader, Damian Hirst & Shepard Fairey (Obey), I can take or leave Fairey & Hirst but I didn’t want to miss the chance to support an Invader exhibit in London. #FlashInvaders

Finished strong with a few more days in Tokyo. Less touristy stuff this time, more enjoying the city, meandering and seeing where the day took me. I fall in love with this city the more I visit, it’s up there with London & Paris as where I feel the most comfortable. It won’t be long until I’m back.

I go most years and have started to gravitate towards the 10th, close to Canal St. Martin. It’s well connected to everywhere via the metro at Republique and has some of best bars, restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries in the city. Plus, it’s a get area for meandering round and not too touristy.

One the reasons for my visit (not that I need a reason to return to Japan!) was to hike the Nakasendo Trail. A gorgeous 8m hike through the Kiso Valley along the 400 year old Samurai Path, winding through forests, bamboo groves and postal towns leaving you feeling like you’ve stepped back in time.

36 hours in Kyoto is seemingly enough and never enough. I love the laid back parts of the town away from the tourist areas but Gion just feels a bit overrun at this point. Having visited the major tourist attractions on previous visits to the city, I didn’t feel bad skipping over them this time.

I finally got around to visiting Hiroshima after 6 trips to Japan. The Peace Memorial park is a beautifully somber affair that was quieter than I thought. Turns out all the tourists were on Miyajima Island to visit Itsukushima, the floating Torii gate, a beautiful island I need to revisit.

Whilst I was in Kyoto I got to check out TeamLab: Biovortex. Photography doesn’t do TeamLab justice, a mindboggingly staggering interactive art gallery that leaves you wondering how they do it. It’s clearly designed for social media but when it’s this impressive you tend to forget about that.

Made a beeline for Kyoto for the express purpose of visiting the Nintendo Museum which I was lucky enough to get tickets for. A glorious celebration of all things Nintendo, half a museum (sadly no photography) and half interactive playground with some very impressive technology.

In Tokyo for a few days and got to check out the Invaders ‘Hyperspace’ exhibit that’s just opened. Loved getting to see a dedicated exhibit to for his work, it’s a great mix of some of his actual pieces, prints & sketches of the work before they’re made. #invaders #flashinvaders
