Today I'm posting a video about Neurodigitech LLC which has provided clearly photoshopped neurons to research teams that published these images in Nature, JBC, and more. A year after I uncovered this only one paper has been corrected. It's in Frontiers. youtu.be/4g_1_AWOVpI

Wonder was there ever been of TD learning been used in behavior? Or maybe the question is: is it possible to prove TD learning using behavior?🤔 #NeuroAI #neuroscience #compneurosky

I wrote an introduction to RL for neuroscience last year that was just published in NBDT: tinyurl.com/5f58zdy3 This review aims to provide some intuition for and derivations of RL methods commonly used in systems neuroscience, ranging from TD learning through the SR to deep and distributional RL!

Wishing a happy 90th birthday today to living legend Margaret Hamilton! She led the team that created Apollo's guidance computer software, coined the phrase "software engineering", developed software for Skylab, and founded two computer companies of her own. #WomenInSTEM #NASA #WomensHistory

It’s my great pleasure to share our findings about how proprioception contributes to navigation with the 3rd mechanotransduction, muscle spindles and proprioception conference! It’s my first oral presentation aboard and I love the enthusiasm and energy! Learned so much from amazing people.

Is spatial navigation innate 🧠? Using #NeuroPixels we show that the #torus 🍩 underlying the #GridCell map exists already on day 10 in rats — before pups open eyes and ears and before they start upright walking. 🧵1:4 👇 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

It’s done! Just submitted the manuscript for my next book “The Latent Brain” In it I argue why and how we’ve shifted from single neurons to their collective, latent activity in our quest to understand how brains create minds Due early 2027 from @harvardpress.bsky.social

Excited to share my research with the NeuroAI community! #RIANS Really enjoyed the talks by Dr. Blake Richards and Dr. Kenji Doya. The way the brain computes is so different from how we often expect it to be. Moravec’s paradox is sth I’ll definitely keep in mind as I think about my future research.

“Potential” and the Gender Promotion Gap†
By Alan Benson, Danielle Li, and Kelly Shue*
We show that subjective assessments of employee “potential” contribute to gender gaps in promotion and pay. Using data on 29,809
management-track employees from a large retail chain, we find that
women receive substantially lower potential ratings despite receiving
higher performance ratings. Differences in potential ratings account
for approximately half of the gender promotion gap. Women’s lower
potential ratings do not reflect accurate forecasts of future performance: Women subsequently outperform male colleagues, both on
average and on the margin of promotion. We highlight two mechanisms driving the gender potential gap: strategic retention and stereotyping. (JEL J16, J31, J71, L81, M12, M51)

unclear if Watson made a net positive or negative contribution to science. Without him would the double helix have been figured out sooner or later? Perhaps CSHL would not have grown to its eventual status Perhaps a swathe of women and non-white researchers would not have been lost from science

IMO there’s more theory in neuroscience than we give it credit for, but it doesn’t percolate through the field as much as you would hope/need for broader understanding.

🧠 New year, new preprint! Why does motor learning involve multiple brain regions? We propose that the cortico-cerebellar system learns a "map" of actions where similar movements are nearby, while basal ganglia do RL in this simplified space. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Hi! I’m interested in how mice build and update maps for navigation, focusing on hippocampal circuits and the role of self-motion signals. I use in vivo imaging (SLAP2) in head-fixed treadmill setups, and I also run freely moving experiments to link circuit dynamics to real-world behavior!

Can humans & animals really use internal maps to take shortcuts? Tolman famously said yes - based largely on his Sunburst maze. Our new review & meta-analysis suggests evidence is far weaker than you might think. 🧵👇 doi.org/10.1111/ejn.... @uofgpsychneuro.bsky.social @ejneuroscience.bsky.social

Tolman's Sunburst Maze 80 Years on: A Meta‐Analysis Reveals Poor Replicability and Little Evidence for Shortcutting
In 1946, Tolman et al. reported that rats could take a novel shortcut to a goal after training on an indirect route, supporting the Cognitive Map theory. However, a review of subsequent Sunburst maze...
