This Sunday (7th September) there will be a nationwide Emergency Alert test at 3pm. For women experiencing #DomesticAbuse, a hidden phone can be a lifeline. The Emergency alert this week will trigger a loud siren noise, even if your phone is on silent.

The #FinancialAbuse Code published by UK Finance is reviewed on a regular basis to ensure it keeps pace with increased understanding of victim- survivors’ needs as well as regulatory expectations. Publication of the 3rd iteration this week reflects how far we have come in a short space of time.

The Treasury Committee published its report into the acceptance of cash today. Great to see particular concern expressed in paragraphs 44-49 for victim-survivors of #EconomicAbuse since, for many, having access to and being able to use cash continues to be a lifeline.

The Grameen Foundation has developed a playbook which considers how financial institutions in the US can respond to #EconomicAbuse It is clear that there needs to be a coordinated and concerted effort across sectors to create systems that meet the needs of victim-survivors.

In 2008 I undertook the first piece of UK research on #EconomicAbuse. It led me to develop the 'Economic Power & Control Wheel’ illustrating how this form of abuse is not only a distinct form of #CoerciveControl but threads through and reinforces other forms of controlling tactics used by abusers.

Writing in the @theguardian.com yesterday, @yvonneroberts.bsky.social questions why Controlling or Coercive Behaviour (CCB) is classed as a low-level crime given it’s a risk factor for homicide & victim-suicide following #DomesticAbuse. #EconomicAbuse increases the risk of both still further.
