Glen Hansard, RIP, fair winds. : ( There are two kinds of songs. Songs, and songs you listen to over and over again, LOUD. “Once” is such a song. Even if it’s a tiny fraction of his catalog, it’s a master class in male / female polyphony and songwriting. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

Went to hear the Seattle Symphony play the soundtrack to a projected Raiders of the Lost Ark in real time tonight. They absolutely killed. #SeattleSymphony

Getting around to organizing my 400ish books, about 40% done. My 1980s copy of The Anarchist Cookbook is filed with my cookbooks, because where else would I put it?

Four shelves filled with a bunch of books.

Since 1987, I have gone through many pairs of my only sneaker, the Adidas Samba. They seem to be in fashion?

I’m remembering little tidbits from Blade Runner, here's one: Replicants manifest a desire for artistic expression. Leon and photography (“did you get your precious photos”) Zhora (exotic dancing) Pris (gymnastics) Rachael (piano) Roy who, by the end, is very much a poet.

Last night's live performance of Vangelis' Blade Runner soundtrack sync to film by The Avex Ensemble at Benaroya Hall was pretty awesome.

Good day today! An amazingly talented young lady made a cool video for Space Invader, release on Friday. I may have solved my "deep frying a turkey breast" dilemma that's been consuming my thoughts for months. And a good day at the range, where I was given two free boxes of lovely ammo!

It wasn't until I re-listened to And Justice for All that it occurred to me the possibility that the album, with its flatness, and paper thin drums, vocals, guitars, and clear absence of bass may have been not so much a hazing on Jason, but a farewell to Cliff. www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJz5...

I think one of the better, more subtle tributes to Robert Redford's life is the string of utterly iconic female co-stars who've come forward to eulogize him; each of them take-no-shit types like Fonda and Streisand, and every one of them without a single bad thing to say. A model for male behavior

RIP Maestro Lalo Schifrin. His compositions for Dirty Harry and Enter the Dragon were, and continue to be, huge influences. Please watch this sequence. Listen how the drummer is the heartbeat for Scorpio’s insanity — the changes in tempo and intensity. www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3qx...

I would gladly pay good money to play Medal of Honor: Allied Assault on Xbox. Not Spearhead, not some Collector's Edition, not any of the remastered stuff, just MOHAA with Michael Giacchino's amazing soundtrack.

We put our tune When We Were Soldiers to 1919 aerial footage by Jacques Trolley de Prévaux, a bit of a legend. Memorial Day means different things to folks: whether it's mourning, remembrance, gratitude, or Add to Cart, here's hoping you'll find this appropriate. www.youtube.com/watch?v=w29h...

I once asked my jazz instructor what he thought about when he played a solo. He replied "I’m no good at confrontations, I go quiet or say the wrong thing. So I think of situations like that, and the solo lets me relive that moment and say the right thing."

I'm racking my brain trying to think of a merger / acquisition that benefited anyone other than the shareholders. At best, it lost domestic jobs and created crappier products (Luxottica - Ray Ban / Oliver Peoples / etc. or InMusic - Moog.) At worst, it also cost lives (Boeing - McDonnell Douglas.)

The West Wing is as my favorite records from times of yore, dated, but always great to revisit. Even if it’s political fantasy, it still delivers. My fantasy ticket remains (in no particular order) Ron Swanson / Ainsley Hayes with the motto “We promise nothing.”

In 1991, a friend gave me directions to the grave of legend Robert Johnson. Years later, I was awed at Gil Scott-Heron’s cover of Johnson’s “Me and the Devil Blues." Both versions draw you in, but can be uncomfortable to hear because of their intensity and intimacy. youtu.be/OET8SVAGELA?...

Rilke's description of love (published 1929) is "two solitudes that protect and border and greet each other." It somehow feels à propos to our existence nowadays.

Jon Lupfer & I have been talking about a Dolby Atmos mix for a song. Bought a pair of Old Gen AirPod Pros, as there's an Atmos semblance, a 7.1.2 / 9.2 system (!) Love Me Again by John Newman came up when I turned them on. I am dancing like a crazed person in the darkness of the Caribbean sky.
