One of the smartest decisions any sporting league has ever has, is when F1 decided to let Netflix make Drive to Survive. When I watched that first season, I was hooked. Watching races & shopping for Red Bull Racing swag like a madman. Going on season 8 and I’m still mad about F1. It converted me.

Our house is one of those homes with rounded corners nearly everywhere, so I’ve had to resort to door jambs for scratching my back, which has been a blessing in disguise, thanks to the multiple sharp corners. Helluva scratch, let me tell ya!

After living across from a regional airport for these last 5 months, I have seen stuff that makes me understand why some folks think they see UFO’s/supernatural stuff. This area can get super foggy, and when those intense lights on the tarmac give’r, it can create some crazy light-show phenomena.

The scene begins:

INT. OLD HOME - LIVING ROOM - DAY
Teacups. Collector plates. TRINKETS. A shrine to kitsch...

...and Jesus, whose framed image hangs crooked on a wall.

A dozen crosses of varying sizes surround him.
The monotone voice of MAURICE sounds out.

MAURICE (O.S.)
It's not normal for me to receive court-appointed clientele.

The aged voice of BRENDA answers as we see many photos of her displayed on a mantle. Always alone. Aging with every picture.

BRENDA (O.S.)
I heard you, umm, specialized in a certain type of therapy.

MAURICE (50s, bald, gaunt) listens from an armchair. The top of his head shines in the sunlight.

MAURICE
Ahh... So you're experiencing paranormal trauma?

BRENDA (O.S.)
Yes.

MAURICE
Is the spirit here at this moment?

BRENDA (70s, frail, frumpy) shifts on a plastic-covered couch. Scratches at an ANKLE MONITOR. Through large, thick glasses, her eyes are exhausted.

Behind Brenda's couch loiters J.A. (male, 17, a ghost). Bloody. Gray-skinned. Straggly shoulder-length hair. He wears a uniform of a blue polo and tan chinos. Only Brenda can see and hear him.

J.A.
Am I present, BrenDUH?

Brenda nods. Trembles. On the brink of emotional collapse.

MAURICE
If the spirit were still of this world, would I see them in their current placement?

The sound of fast-paced footsteps approaches Leyland.

A hand squeezes Leyland's necktie. Yanks his floppy head up.

ELLIS (late 50s, smooth tanned face placed between a FEDORA and a HAWAIIAN SHIRT) has a maniacal look in his eyes.

ELLIS (CONT'D)
Wakey, wakey, you son of a bitch!

Ellis backhands Leyland. SMACK!

Leyland jolts awake.

LEYLAND
Aye! I'm awake! I'm awake!

Leyland gazes up at Ellis. Concerned.

LEYLAND (CONT'D)
You okay, Ellis? Everything good?

ELLIS
You've ruined me, asshole!

LEYLAND
Wh-what happened?

ELLIS
Unbelievable!

Ellis releases the tie. Leyland's head clunks to the dirt.

ELLIS (CONT'D)
Leyland fucking happened!

Ellis paces. Turns and kicks dirt at Leyland.

Leyland heaves himself up off the ground. He winces. Groans.

A pile of smouldering rubble sits where Dough Re Meat once stood. In Leyland's terms: It's a goner.

Leyland locks eyes with the destruction.

LEYLAND
Oh, no! No, no! Ellis, this isn't
my work. I'd never do this to you

Ellis winds up and PUNCHES Leyland in the face.

Leyland crumples to the ground. He whimpers.

Ellis looms over him.

ELLIS
I might not be a god-fearing man, but that doesn't mean I welcome the Devil at my doorstep.
