Finally saw Author & Punisher live after like 15 years of idolizing the dude. Great show in a packed little club in East Hollywood. A reminder that I really did just have this dude all over my mind when I built the Rail Bow in 2013.

Had a great time hanging out at the 2026 #VJCC #RAP #ArtsAndCrafts fair this weekend. We bought so much stuff that was really high-quality. Ceramic sake cups, postcards, a yukata, a local lefty history photobook, a little bag, a candle, on and on. Really good stuff on offer.

Sooooo rad seeing DJ Shadow perform his 30th anniversary arrangements of "Endtroducing" front-to-back at the Novo in downtown LA last night. He has apparently never had the occasion / basic stems & samples available to properly tour this record until now. What a treat.

I got to the part of “Strawberry Days” by David Neiwert where the ferry accident that nearly wiped out the entire Suda family is mentioned. This is almost right: it was in 1928, and my great aunt Bernadette went to the Convent while my grandpa George was raised elsewhere.
First part of page except from “Strawberry Days” says “The most striking tragedy befell the family of Teikichi Suda in 1925.”Excerpt from “Strawberry Days” that describes a ferry accident that nearly wiped out my entire Nikkei bloodline.

Playing Dawn of the Machine for Quake's 30th has got me rinsing more mods they packaged with the Nightdive release. Love how easily they load up. 1st I played "Beyond Belief" (1997), now I'm trying "Slave Zero X" (2024). Great way to contrast decades of level design refinement. It's very "Ion Fury".

The sandstone triangle that forms the source of the water flow is inlaid with river rocks. There are more out-of-habitat redwood trees here too, forming a vista on an elevated hill to view the rest of the piece from. Other sections are indistinguishable from generic corporate office park structures.

OC adventures from yesterday pt 2: We checked out "California Scenario" by Isamu Noguchi in Costa Mesa. It's not much but it really does leave an impression on you. This is precisely what the prompt of "1980s Orange County corporate minimalist modernist version of a Japanese Garden" would yield lol.

These trees were planted in 1970 and the park opened in '75. They are watered 5x/wk by a potable water sprinkler system. They only reach <100ft, where as native habitat ones up north can be 3-4x that height. And they were the surplus of a giveaway of redwood seedlings by a local bank. Bizarre stuff.

OC adventures from yesterday pt 1: We drove down to Carbon Canyon Regional Park in Brea to see the only sustained grove of redwood trees in Southern California. We also saw a baby rattlesnake under the bench we were snacking at, and it randomly rained for like 10min as soon as we arrived??? Magical.

Wanna see my #3DGS #GaussianSplat library? I just consolidated every decent scan I've ever done across all platforms #LichtFeldStudio #Scaniverse #LumaAI #Polycam and uploaded them to #SuperSplat covering ~2.5yrs of going progressively deeper down the rabbit hole. Enjoy! superspl.at/user/egggohan
A screenshot of the SuperSplat website showing some of the Gaussian Splats I've uploaded to the platform; 52 as of now.

Aw man, I was on a roll consolidating every decent splat I've ever made on any platform and putting it on #SuperSplat, but I think their AWS servers are throttling me now and my upload rate got like 50x slower. Dang it 😤 Well, it will be really nice to have when I can actually finish this project...

Took another trip running donated food from a catering company to #HollywoodFoodCoalition today. It's a lotta work driving around town, but it's fun & feels like a secret spy mission. Thrilled to still be able to put the Juneaumobile to good use. Wasn't sure I could fit 31 trays but I pulled it off!
A bunch of open aluminum trays of food sitting on a cart inside the facilities of a catering company.31 trays of food sitting in the back of my car. Loving all the wonderful high-detail work in the new MachineGames campaign for the 30th anniversary of Quake, Dawn of the Machine. Since it's linear, I'm making sure to spend my time in all the corners and try to rinse as much of the secrets as I can in a reasonable amount of time.

Picked up a new #kokeshi yesterday from Osara Commissary in #PikePlaceMarket. He fits right in with the rest of my squad. Love the exposed wood knot and the tassels. His head swivels like the one I got in Hawaii. Cool to have ones from CA, HI and WA now, the collection is starting to come together.

Got up this morning to help my stepdad with gathering & distributing grocery clearance to the Issaquah Food Bank and a local church here in the Renton Highlands. Picked up stuff from the Newcastle QFC and the Issaquah Costco. Feels good to do something up here while PUMA is taking a break this week.

I had a bunch of pent-up cooking energy from months of basically only eating Factor meals so I made some nishime veggies w/chicken last week and cleaned out the freezer a fair bit.
Two little chawan bowls, one containing rice w/shoyu and chopsticks, and the other containing seasoned nishime veggies (burdock, carrot, lotus root, etc.) and chicken.

I would like to believe that if there is nowhere else that I can convincingly resolve the clash in values that live inside of me, that at least I can do that for myself through juxtaposition in my scrapbook.
A two page spread of various stickers and cutout bits of paper. Some of it comes from old instruction manuals from the HTC Vive from 2016, some of it comes from stickers that came from the PUMA Sticker Club including some "Free Palestine" and "Chinga La Migra"-type stuff, and some of it is the cut out instructions from the packaging of some pepper spray.

One of the piles of paper I've had sitting on my desk for the last couple months is all of the manuals and other paper bits that were in the boxes of all of my 2016-era HTC Vive gear. I finally took some time to cut all the little bits out and overlay them into my scrapbook. Fun time period mash-up.

It was an exhausting work day in the sun, but @alabapsi.bsky.social and I both had a ton of fun staging the wiring up the fireworks, even if we had to stay late to clean up the mess left behind afterwards. Thanks to Hutch, Jingles, Red Dog & the rest of the Hutch FX Crescenta Valley Fireworks crew!

I was completely obsessed with this beautiful specimen of boomer engineering - a completely handmade console that uses SCSI ports to send current to speaker wire terminals that light the fuses. Ignited by pressing a multimeter probe against screw heads. Built probably 45 years ago & still working.

Spent the 4th of July watching a proper show from the perspective I've always wanted to catch: right on the ground by the firing console! So intense - the chest-rattling BOOM as it leaves the launching tube & the burning paper flying everywhere was awesome. Debris even landed on me a couple times!

We finally visited Otomisan, the famous "last Japanese restaurant in Boyle Heights", for the 1st time & it didn't disappoint. And we managed to walk right in just a few minutes after opening, which limited our exposure to the fire air. I want to come back some time to see if I can scan the inside.

This is the first time I've noticed a reference to Bronzeville since learning that that is what became of Little Tokyo during the internment years - it changed into a Black area.
A City of LA placard commemorating the site of The Finale Club in the former neighborhood of Bronzeville, which is what Little Tokyo was in 1946 during the internment years. The placard reads "The Finale Club - 230 ½ East First Street - Little Tokyo/Bronzeville - Where Jazz greats Charlie Parker and Miles Davis performed together in 1946."

I can't recommend checking out @tenderclaws.bsky.social 's latest project "Body Proxy" enough if u get a chance to try it.
