Here we are in the year 2026 incapable of just the simplest of mobile phone calls in Bristol without it being a glitchy dropped out VoLTE mess. Bring back GSM FFS.

Everything about EI is quite wonky. But not in quite the same adorable way that it was with BD/bmi. With EI it's just all a bit....off...

"The Obvious"? Is this a new show I've missed? If it isn't, please have it commissioned immediately, it sounds amazing. Peter Serafinowicz to star.

The route to G gates from landside takes you straight from security through eGates into the non-schengen zone. I try to avoid AMS with my UK passport, but KL fly 5x daily from BRS, so sometimes it's ... unavoidable ☹️.

Nick Piggott @nickpiggott.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
If you went the usual route to D1-57/E/F/G gates you would have cleared Departures 2 security, then straight to the eGates to exit the EU into the non-schengen area of the airport. Then you went back/forth thru the transit eGates at the bottom of the D pier between non-schengen & Schengen areas.

The Star lounge is in Schengen, so you left the EU, came back in, and then left again. Something that would have taken me, previously an EU Citizen, around 3 hours. 🤦‍♂️ (See also: Transferring A to B piers via the tunnel at FRA).

Dodging AMS was a smart move. It may be slow at BRU, but AMS last week was a nightmare. 3 officers checking passports for all non-EU travellers for the entire evening's departures. 🤦‍♂️

Seems like they were listening to a different South Bristol Neighborhood to this one. Can't find many people who asked for any kind of modal filters (physical or cameras).

It's a system fault that started a week ago. But no information on what caused it or who's supposed to fix it. Just much much longer queues.

Nick Piggott @nickpiggott.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
#ams #schiphol on dismal form as usual. Three passport control desks open for departing passengers. Just three. eGates not working for UK passports, for unexplained reasons.

Upside, the kiosk recognised my existing EES registration, and raised my hopes raised of a quick entry. Downside - eGates don't recognise British passports?!? WTAF??

Nick Piggott @nickpiggott.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
#EES fiasco. At #AMS, queue to get to a kiosk+ photo+prints. Tells me to use eGates. Queue again to the eGates, which reject me, to back of the manual queue. The border officer tells me 'British passports aren't working in the eGates'. 🤦‍♂️

Credit where credit is due, a pretty much flawless EES entry process at OPO this evening. Kiosks working, previous EES registration recognised, questions asked and answered, and directed to use the eGates. 5 minutes through. 👌

When assessing the strategic mix of broadcast and IP, it’s important to not let the familiarity of broadcast breed contempt for its strengths, both technological and strategic, @nickpiggott.bsky.social of RadioDNS writes.

Currently editing some audio for a theatre show, and the director's run order is a level of chaos that's making my skin itch. Every number should have a number, not a vague 'title as intent' naming convention. 😬

Radio WOMAD is a festival radio station running from a cabin in a field. They're DAB encoding at source + accurate PAD + accurate Traffic Announcements. And it sounds banging. A real passion to getting it 💯 that quite a lot of 'proper' stations just done have. 🙄 radiotoday.co.uk/2026/07/radi...

Absolutely like clockwork. Someone should do a data visualisation of 'number of days between planning permission granted and the developer saying the number of affordable housing units is not sustainable'.

If the BBC pulls the plug on terrestrial TV, will broadcast radio become collateral damage? Is this the domino that topples the whole 'high tower, high power' broadcast stack in the UK? (Small Scale DAB would be much less affected - but could it take up the slack?)

Boring tech reply - check your ventilation inlets. They often get blocked by fluff and lint so the fans go wild and the laptop gets very hot. Have a Google to find out where they are on your laptop model.

Listening to iHeart 80s this evening, I can't believe how they butcher the intros to songs?! Was this how they were always broadcast on radio in the US? Bruce Hornsby & The Range, The Way It Is - slashed to ONE bar of piano intro. Hall and Oates, Maneater, just two bars of sax. Weird.

I think the idea of micro mobility is interesting, but I think it needs to be managed as part of a complete public transport plan - not as a commercial sideline. 6/end
000
Nick Piggott @nickpiggott.bsky.social · 28/05/2026
Which means it's not a public transport solution at all. It's serving Dott's shareholders, and as a side effect, offering some transport options to some people. 5/
100
Nick Piggott @nickpiggott.bsky.social · 28/05/2026
But the micro mobility is also inefficient. By leaving all those assets sat all day in the city, they're helping noone. Clearly Dott, the operator, doesn't want the hassle of ferrying 'empties' around. 4/

Nick Piggott @nickpiggott.bsky.social · 28/05/2026
In contrast, the buses go into the city full, then they come back out empty, then go back in again and so on. An economist might say they're only 50% efficient. 3/
