Being a motion designer, Corporate Memphis was/is unavoidable. At the very least, the bold shapes and character designs could lead to neat vector animation, which is fun for corpo work. Easy to parody too. Now it’s all frosted glass and gradients. Very easy to animate, but very uninspired imo

Personally a huge fan of Samus’ character going from stoic and measured to just pure femme rage. Going from the most powerful hunter to the galaxy’s biggest bounty. All while on a quest to find herself within this ever-twisting identity. Metroid is so fucking cool, dude.

Zelda is much more flexible with its art direction, which is a good thing and I wish more games embraced. However, in an age of GenAI (and the dipshits who use it) codifying hyper-realism, it means that this type of maximalist direction will become generic and exhausting very quickly imo

I’m 50/50 on the lighting consistently being a bit too much. But darker areas look scary and grand, which I think really works for the tone. When I was younger, I found early OoT to be quite scary, so I’m glad they are leaning into it and not sanding off those specific edges.

OoT remake looks pretty much what I expected tbh! I think Link’s design has textures that are a a bit too detailed that kind of clashes with the other character designs that are more faithful to the original N64.
