It’s funny to think that a taco truck outside your office, if it takes in revenue greater than its costs—you know: profit?—has more profit than OpenAI and Anthropic combined.

I thought it might be time to upgrade a drive or two in my #NAS. Except the exact same 4TB drive I bought three years ago is now twice as expensive as it was back in 2023. I’m guessing I can thank LLMs for this?

A lot of tech is complicated by good and bad uses. Single use plastic, for example, is mostly unnecessary. But (to name just one) there are medical settings where it helps save lives by keeping things sterile. Even though we need to drastically reduce them, if we suddenly banned 100% of single […]

I thoroughly enjoyed "The Reverse Centaur's Guide to Life After AI" by @pluralistic, and in that context found this article by The Economist a somewhat hilarious read […] [Original post on infosec.exchange]
Quoted from Economist article: "A rough calculation finds that covering AI capex through identifiable AI income requires revenue on the order of $2.5trn per year, more than tech’s entire combined revenue today (and far higher than what would have been needed a year or so ago, when capex plans were more modest). Only a small minority of consumers seem willing to pay for personal AI subscriptions, so the real money will have to be made from selling to enterprises."

Found a diagram depicting my hotel shower's temperature dial.
Two images of the classic silver shower knob, where all the way anti clockwise is full-hot, all the way clockwise is full cold and then off. On the left it says "How they are" and it depicts a red range labeled "magma" a tiny green sliver that says "useful shower temperatures", a huge blue band that says "ice cold," and then a little black bar that says "off if you push really hard." The second one is the same set of colors and labels. But the magma band is quite small. Most of the arc is this big green band of "useful shower temperatures," there's a small blue "ice cold" region, and then the black line labeled "off".

I don’t like the way social media makes it look like everything is going well all the time. So here are some of my paintings that did not turn out so well.
A square watercolor painting on paper depicting an abstract landscape. The top half is dominated by shades of blue and white, suggesting a sky or clouds. The bottom half features a mix of green and brown, possibly representing land or foliage. Two small red-brown spots are visible in the upper half.A small, rectangular watercolor painting depicting a sunset landscape. The sky is rendered in warm tones of orange and red, transitioning to a green and brown foreground with a silhouetted tree on the left. The painting is framed by a thin white border. A watercolor painting of a whimsical garden scene featuring three flowers – one large purple flower with yellow details, a smaller blue flower, and a smaller purple flower. A red and pink butterfly is positioned in the upper right corner. The background is a soft, light wash. The painting is framed by a thin white border.

Here are some more of my recent paintings. I’ve been trying to paint at least a little every day
A small, rectangular watercolor painting shows a collection of abstract, organic shapes in a variety of blended colors, including blues, purples, yellows, and deep reds. The colors are applied with a loose, wet-on-wet technique, creating soft edges and a sense of fluidity. In the upper right corner, two stylized butterflies, one in shades of purple and the other in blue, are painted with a slightly more defined line.A square watercolor painting features a series of geometric shapes, including triangles and rectangles, in shades of blue, yellow, purple, and orange. The shapes are arranged diagonally across the canvas, creating a dynamic composition. Within one section, a sunset scene is depicted with soft washes of orange and pink, against which a flock of silhouetted birds is flying. In another section, a silhouette of a pine tree stands against a similar sunset backdrop. On the left side, a detailed leaf with segmented petals in shades of red and green is painted. The painting is done on textured paper, adding depth and visual interest.A square watercolor painting depicts an abstract cloudy sky using soft, blended washes of purple, gray, and pale yellow. The colors are applied in a wet-on-wet technique, creating a sense of depth and atmospheric perspective. The darker purple and gray tones suggest cloud formations, while the lighter yellow areas hint at a distant light source or clearing. The painting is done on textured paper, adding to the subtle variation in color and texture.A grid of four small, square watercolor paintings, each depicting a layered mountain landscape. The top left painting features mountains in shades of blue, the top right in shades of brown, the bottom left in muted shades of green and brown, and the bottom right in dark shades of blue and black. Each painting uses a similar composition, with layers of mountains receding into the distance, creating a sense of depth and atmospheric perspective. The paintings are done on textured paper and arranged in a 2x2 grid.

Some of my recent paintings. Really enjoying the calmness it creates for my brain
A square watercolor painting depicting a dark, silhouetted hill on the left, leading to a body of water on the right. The sky above transitions from pink at the top to a light blue-gray near the horizon. A dark, silhouetted line of grass and flowers is at the bottom.A square watercolor painting depicts a field of loosely rendered flowers in soft blues, purples, and oranges. The flowers have a slightly blurry, dreamlike quality. A tiny, detailed bee is flying in the upper left corner, and a small red butterfly with black markings is fluttering in the upper right. The background is a pale wash of pink, and the painting is done on textured paper.A square watercolor painting shows a dark, silhouetted hill sloping down on the left, meeting a body of water that transitions from a dark blue at the top to a vibrant purple at the bottom. The sky above is a soft, pale pink, suggesting dusk or dawn. On the right, a darker, silhouetted landmass is visible, with a small patch of white hinting at a wave or foam breaking against the shore. The painting is done on textured paper, adding to the depth and atmosphere.
