Live-Action Scooby-Doo doesn't quite hit every note I want it to, in terms of eerieness. That's what SD on Zombie Island is for. That said, the charm of this cast is undeniable. As cheesy as the 3D is, Scooby is mostly convincing.

The work that they did on the 4 Silent Hill titles by Team Silent is insurmountable - just like truly excellent stuff. I do find it fascinating that Silent Hill moved towards psychological horror, symbolism, and leaning into its jank (positive). But Resident Evil moved towards more pulp and action.

I want to see - on the big screen - An 1h 30m Sonic movie with Roger Craig Smith, that has an original story and a solid theme. I wanna watch someone we've never met before walk into Silent Hill, with their own personal and psychological troubles. Hell a movie about Heather post-SH3 would be cool.

I don't care to see adaptations of stories I've already seen in video games. I always prefer something original done within this universe. I don't wanna relearn about the Tragedy on the Space Colony Arc and I don't wanna watch James walk through Silent Hill.

Yeah, I'd say right in the middle. I do kind of wish that Cregger's Resident Evil took place -within- the RE Universe - Because as a story, it's probably the closest to what I actually want out of a video game movie.

So, it would be more accurate to say that Dread was in dev hell, and scrapped for a Decade and a Half - Then after MercurySteam made Samus Returns, they were impressed enough to let them make Dread.

I think it's closer. It doesn't desecrate it's ending nor does it change the layout too much. (Before I lost my save, I could navigate Metroid II much better with AM2R knowledge than I could with Samus Returns) - but it does step back a bit on its atmosphere feeling desolate and disturbing.

I dislike Samus Returns to its very core. I haven't and will never beat it. AM2R is the Metroid II remake to me, and I do have plans to eventually beat Metroid II in it's origin.

A lot of people like Samus Returns, and it sets up stuff that is going to happen in Dread narratively and gameplay wise. I have various biases I won't share in regards to Samus Returns - But don't let anyone tell you which one is the better one.

It really is up to preference. I think if you want an experience that's closer to the dark and depressing tone of Metroid II, and has the most customizable controls in any title. There's also plenty of lore in AM2R (pre-Samus Returns) that lines up with the narrative just as good.

In fact, they designed Metroid Dread this way so you wouldn't get lost. Do I think this works? Yes and no. If you walk away from the game, you'll tend to forget where the big arrow is that says go here. (I have done that various times.) In comparison, Super Metroid does not need a big arrow.

A lot of times the way forward in Metroid Dread is at a turn you chose not to go to. This doesn't necessarily mean you're stuck, just that you have to recall what you missed. A lot of times this is a teleporter you passed up on or you forgot had an upgrade that opens an area or section.

My biggest concern was #1. Does Link look okay? #2. Is the game the same? I'm not the biggest fan of remakes that do too much. Because fundamentally I want to be able to have the same conversation about a piece of art.

I think it probably has to do with a difference in feel? Young Link is supposed to present this level of innocence, so I expect it to be very simple and uncomplicated. But with Adult Link you can go as complicated as you want because it's... the middle of a war and he has to take his seriously.

I will say, it looks waaaay better on Adult Link than it does Young Link. It's very distracting with Young, but it adds some depth to the Adult design which kind of works for me.
