nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 09/10/2026I love obsessing over a single band's back catalogue for a month or two. I did it with Ghe Chills last year, Transglobal Underground earlier this year, and now it's the Television Personalities. 110
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Both my daughters have read it as a result of the Netflix/Book Tok publicity, which has caused me to reread it after 35 years (it's brilliant!). But we all have mixed feelings about watching the series. Hopefully, I'll watch it with my eldest. 010
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Rooting for Gerald, even though he'd probably be horrified 010

nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 05/10/2026The Dominant Animal by Kathryn Scanlan, very short stories and microfiction that will stay in your imagination for a long time 010
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Happy birthday Rhodri!!!! 🎂 🥳 🎉 🪅 🎊 🍺 🍻 🥳 😊 😃 😀 😄 👍 👌 👍 👌 🥳 🎉 🪅 🎊 🍺 🍻 🥳 🎉 010
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 26/09/2026The beautiful Dom In Orange from @kristinhersh.bsky.social new album seems to have a melodic echo of her song Bo Diddley Bridge 000
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I bought Under A Blood Red Sky and Japanese Whispers together for £2.99 each, from Woolworths in Shoreham-By-Sea High Street. Mini-abums discovered! A key moment in my early musical life 020
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Sorry, Spiritual was the first song he played, not Primitive 000
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 25/09/2026The Primevals' Sound Hole (1986) still sounds great 40 years later. Underappreciated, I think, few of my friends had this LP, even though they were into REM, Rain Parade, Green On Red, Dream Syndicate etc. Another band I first heard through Peel, who I think played Primitive ahead of a Peel Session 100
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Yeah, she never disappoints. 101 Run, Dark Eyed Junco and especially '72 Stingray are jumping out at me early on (those guitars on 72S!), but then whole album is magic 000
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Great summary, Martha's Enard is one of the most exciting writers working today, in my opinion. 110
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Sidebar: as far as I know, John Peel never played her music again, which I find inexplicable. 110
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Second listen to the new @kristinhersh.bsky.social album today, on the bus home, on headphones. Depending how you cut it, it's about the 27th album since I first heard Peel play Vicky's Box in 1986. I don't know how but every album seems to be its own distinctive, self-contained world. Brilliant. 110
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Hard to choose one, but I'll go for Wilson Harris's 1959 novella, Palace Of The Peacock, a short but densely-layered, image-rich ghost story that alternately drifts and plunges down a Guyanese river towards a transcendent and lysergic conclusion. Influenced by Yeats and published by Eliot. Wonderful 021
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Wow, thanks! I'm a bit overwhelmed with new Robyn Hitchcock, Kristin Hersh and Beck all turning out to be stupendous, but I'll investigate immediately. 011

nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 18/09/2026I rewatched Compartment No.6 last night and enjoyed it even more second time round. An understated and involving Finnish/Russian train film that leaves a lot unsaid and feels extremely convincing, based on a novel. It's on iplayer but disappearing inside a month, apparently. 1112
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 18/09/2026No, I get it, I've got family on Facebook, kids on IG/Bereal, mates on Discord, and at least 3 forums where I've "known" people for over a decade. 010
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 18/09/2026I think I don't follow enough accounts to encounter this problem. I tend to scroll down once or twice a day until I get to the stuff I saw last time. Always enjoy your posts James, and frequently dig out albums you've reminded me of (Yellow Swans most recently). 110
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 17/09/2026New @kristinhersh.bsky.social album in 3 hours 21 minutes everybody!!! 🥳 000
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 16/09/2026www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVFh... The Blue Aeroplanes have always meant a lot to me. Listening to Friendloverplane opened my mind to what pop music could be and seemed to combine a love of VU and primitivist rock with a genuinely poetic/avant sensibility. nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 11/09/2026You've got me listening to the whole album now. My wife is unsure, which is her common reaction to music I choose, but still! 110
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 07/09/2026Yes, I bought all his stuff back in the day, but neglected Rev a bit. It might be my favourite now, although Joy 1967-1990 is very nostalgic. I love how the first album is so full of ideas, diaphanous, crunchy, twinkling, weird. Then Joy is perfect pop and Rev is just loose, freaky and hypnotic. 010
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 07/09/2026I should explore The Minutemen. I tend to obsessively rediscover bands and spend a couple of months on a deep dive. 100

nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 07/09/2026My favourite new things have been the 6 sides of minimal dub techno on Lateral's Mammo, and The Confuser, the latest in Robyn Hitchcock's spectacular late-career run of albums. Also been obsessing over Ultra Vivid Scene's 3 4AD albums and Transglobal Underground's back catalogue. 210

nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 06/09/2026The Wedding Present headlined, I think the year before, and it ended up with about 50 of us up on the stage while the band were still playing. Heady youth! 110
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Terrific stuff. My favourite Roky song is the "ding ding ding dowowow" version of I Have Always Been Here Before www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBWW...youtube.comRoky Erickson - I Have Always Been Here BeforeYouTube video by VerhipBe 110
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 06/09/2026I think that's the Turn It Up Xmas party at the old Top Rank in Brighton, always a great night back then. The energy in this performance is amazing, such a great live band. 120
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 03/09/2026American Analog Set are one I feel a bit bad about. They have one song that I love, have listened to hundreds of times and put on every other playlist I make, but indefensibly I haven't really given their wider catalogue a proper go 010
nickinko @nickinko.bsky.social · 03/09/2026I wish! Sadly, I'm on the south coast of England. I love her album, been growing on me all year to the point where every single track is like a low key earworm now. Thanks anyway! 000
