I did not move from so far away (sw Ontario farm country) but I have similarly fallen in love with Toronto. I think a lot of the hate the rest of Canada heaps on Toronto is undeserved. It's a great city full of culture and community.

I hate when I start looking at reddit or youtube shorts and when I look up ten thousand years have passed and I'm sitting in the mouldering ruins of my castle. I like to think the algorithm can't fool me but obviously these tumbled heaps of mossy stone say otherwise.

Sometimes I wonder if on some google doc or in some notebook there exists a ttrpg system someone has written that would blow the socks off the tabletop community, but it just never sees the light of day. I'm sure it must be so! So many cool ideas of every kind die in the dark. Bittersweet to me.

Worked on my post-apocalypse animal character classes this evening. I've decided Opossums – who faint when scared – are innately connected to The Dreaming and can use it to astral project when fully attuned. There's a burgeoning opossum cult which claims to be able to use it to see the future.

One thing he specifically requested that my system doesn't handle out of the box is that the players all play uplifted animals living in Toronto after all the humans disappeared. So now I have some fun creative writing and designing to build raccoons and pigeons as character classes.

He basically described my own system All-Out Apocalypse to me in layman's terms. I calmly (rabidly) told him I had written a system just like that, and causally offered (screeched, bug-eyed) that I'd be happy to run a game for him. He accepted!! I've started casually (obsessively) planning.

My coworker - surrounded by dice nerds all day - has never played a TTRPG before. He told me he isn't interested in fantasy as a genre but mused that he'd be very interested in a game set in a post apocalypse. I tried to stay chill. He told me he'd prefer the rules be light. I failed to stay chill.

After making lunch for my kid's first day back at school I got carried away and also roasted up six sweet potatoes (now mashed and freezing in silicone muffin cups), and a dozen muffin-sized apple crumbles for snack tonight and breakfast tomorrow. Successfully using up our produce!!

My brother @cerhendriks.bsky.social showed us the Tolkien exhibit at the Stratford museum. It was great, but the chrome mannequin wearing the Gandalf outfit immediately conjured to mind this excellent meme.

I'm reminded of a game I picked up many years ago called Warbirds. The setting was sky pirates on sky islands. Some of these sky islands are on elliptical orbits that bring them withing fuel range for short windows, making them temporarily accessible before they arc away again. It seemed really cool

Five years ago we were fortunate enough to be able to buy a home with a friend. This spring he let us know that he was ready to go his own way (amicably), so we had to quickly figure out if we could afford to buy out his half. It's been a heckin' stressful summer, but today we closed the sale!

I always really liked that about the warcraft Tauren race. Made fanart for younger me very difficult to figure out because the anatomy was so different.
