No hate on Ella specifically in case she sees this. It’s just worth noting who signs her paychecks. It is my opinion that the AI Safety movement and TESCREAL more broadly are ideologically compromised and I personally would look at any journalism they fund with a very critical eye.

Tarbell is a group that pays for fellowships in journalism on AI, typically a grant to work an outlet for a year strictly covering the AI industry. They are funded by donors that seem to broadly be from the TESCREAL crowd. Coefficient Giving, Longview Philanthropy, EA Infrastructure Fund etc

Okay slight correction. Casey has a “fellow” at Platformer and when I first heard him talk about it he was vague about who was actually paying their salary. This fellow is Ella Markianos and it says on Platformer she is paid by the Tarbell Center for AI Journalism.

“Budget build” to me is a sub-$7500 car with whatever the bare minimum is to compete in the desired racing series. So maybe like $10-$12k all in. Miata with basic suspension and tires/brakes for track days. Hot hatch with the same and a mild tune for auto cross. 350Z with spare wheels for drifting

Small fact check: Moog Parts was founded by brothers Hubert Moog and Alva Moog, who are not related to Robert Moog of Moog synthesizer fame from what I can tell. William Moog, cousin of Robert Moog, founded Moog Inc which is an OEM supplier of flight control systems to defense contractors.
