Happy Sunday afternoon everyone! Thanks to everyone who has followed me on here. Day three for me and the third day fighting a migraine, so if I miss anyone give me a nudge! 👋🙂

One of the reasons why I left the dark place long ago, but never deleted my account, is that I would lose part of the history that happened via twitter, when it was still a good place. Such as this story behind the patchwork tartan map, connected to Scotland, Scottish independence, Brexit and hope.

Continued 8-Dec 2018: So my idea for this custom design was born. And the amazingly talented @MissBabington made so many of my thoughts and emotions come alive in one frame. A saltire 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 heart. The Scottish thistle. The saying. And a map showing the colourful diversity of Scotland in tartans. 💙 /8

Story continued: The rise in xenophobia elsewhere is in stark contrast to the attitude behind this test, which is very much that of a welcoming, inclusive nation, where nationality is based on civic identity. It truly does not matter where you came from, if you wish to make Scotland your home. /3

Quote by Dr John Davies (historian):

Scotland is, I think, for the whole of mankind an inspiring example of a country inhabited by people basing their nationality on civic rather than ethnic identity.

My story behind it: I call Scotland my home. But like so many new Scots, I wasn't actually born here. That difference doesn't really matter though. When I first mentioned my plans to move to Scotland, I was overwhelmed by the friendly welcome. And I was sent a Scottish citizenship test. /2

Scottish citizenship test diagram
Do you want to be Scottish?
Yes - ok you're in
No - aye you do - going back to the question

Meme official citizenship test:

Do you want to live in Scotland?
Yes is ticked

That's it.

Donna wrote, 8-Dec 18: I was asked to do a custom design tonight & although still in progress I think it is one of the most emotional & beautiful designs so far, 67 different tartans used, the concept is one I share, If you feel Scottish then you are. It was a custom creation made for me, which Donna then added as a limited edition to her shop. Sadly she's closed it down now, but I treasure the original. I also have some other designs with the patchwork tartan 😀 The story behind it was on her website and I did a twitter thread about it.
