It’s October tomorrow and the Ice Cream Van is driving around. This has caused my biggest ever climate anxiety. Fuck.

Discussing the Man City charges at work, one colleague goes ‘in feudal Japan, if you brought great shame upon yourself, then, well…’ Pep to commit seppuku live on Sky Sports News.

RIP PAC Absolutely shocking news.

It's reassuring that Israel are so shite at football. They shouldn't be allowed to play but if they are it's important that they get humiliated. I know it shouldn't matter but it does somehow.

So that was the last big weekend of the summer. Friend’s wedding today followed by The Tubs tomorrow night.

Watched the first act of the Abel Gance Napoleon this evening, fucking hell some of the cinematic techniques in this are incredible. 100 years ago!

Fascinated by the one charge Man City *aren’t* guilty of. What could it beee.

Every Instagram post now is 'I saw someone doing something weird, when I asked them about it, turned out it was for a sad reason because of a tragic thing that happened, doesn't that make you think' but in longer Chat-GPT style. I am fucking sick of it.

All for allowing drinking in your seat at the football. As someone who's been to both Leeds United and Rhinos games in the last few years, it's ridiculous you can do it at one and not the other. It's basically the same crowd of people.

That Lesbian Bar masking story is like a parody of ‘leftist’ infighting, you couldn’t make it up because it would seem too much. Can’t believe there are people still so obsessed with Covid in 2026.

Wrapped up the weekend with another Douglas Sirk melodrama 'Written On The Wind' which I thought was excellent. He seems to have cranked up the operatic tragic dial here and it just works brilliantly.

Leeds still undefeated before the endless international break, I will take that.

Just watched 'The Song Of Songs', Marlene Dietrich's first sound film without Josef Von Sternberg. It's a bit of a step-down from those films but still very good, mainly thanks to Dietrich's performance.

I don't want to come across as a nationalist here and I do like and trust Zdarsky as a writer but is it not kind of fucked to turn a British hero like MiracleMan into a former US soldier and even a Captain America? Disgusting US imperialism!

Niam @niamsuggitt.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

John Brewin starting his Forest/Coventry match report with 'No, but seriously'... sometimes the Guardian is still good.

Niam @niamsuggitt.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

Watched 'Ballerina' this evening which I thought was fun in the now classic John Wick style. It's probably not as good as the 4 main films but it's basically the same stuff.

Today feels like a good day to say this again.

000

Niam @niamsuggitt.bsky.social · 14/09/2026

Bloody hell Leeds, this is almost too good.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. (Yes this is about signing up for Oasis tickets again)

Good first episode of SNL UK series 2, highlights for me were; The way Al Nash said 'this King Kong is as bi as they come' Andy Burnham Emma Sidi as a saucy french maid The return of Celeste Dring doing Claudia Winkleman All the shots at Avanti 45 Seconds with Fouracres being a CMAT lightsaber duel

Ronay’s ‘referees are bad because they don’t have higher education’ take may be his worst ever. (Genocide apologia aside)

The new This Is Lorelei record is excellent, feels like a big step forward.

000

Niam @niamsuggitt.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

Watched 'Spawn' this afternoon, this is the most 90s movie ever made, and that it is not necessarily a criticism.

Niam @niamsuggitt.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

New Tubs album is very good, seeing them live in a few weeks!

000

Niam @niamsuggitt.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

Much to my shame I had never actually seen 'Schindler's List' until today, probably because it's such heavy subject matter that it's hardly a film you can just 'pop on'. But it is definitely a masterpiece.

Went to an anti-Data Centre protest today and there was a Trans Flag with 'BUTLERIAN JIHAD NOW' on it.

Re-watched 'Mean Streets' for the first time since University tonight, perhaps in tribute to New York City today? Anyway, it's still fantastic, Robert De Niro is so electric (and he looks like Liam Gallagher, or rather Liam looks like him) and it's so fun to see that Scorsese style solidify.

Am I the only one incapable of not reading that story about the man and the RyanAir window as 'sucked off' not 'sucked out'? Am I a lone pervert?

Guys I think Steven Borden may have 'it'.

The Fash mob turning against the Daily Mail is a) funny and b) probably shows why the right will fail because they can't help fighting each other. The Mail is a far-right newspaper! They were on your side!

The Guardian long read on Turning Point USA and the year since the Kirk shooting is very good.

These Israeli sanctions are definitely too little too late but still, it’s a start.

Why are Red Leicester flavoured versions of things (Mini=Cheddars, Quavers) much stronger and cheesier whereas the actual cheese tastes basically the same as regular cheddar? In fact I would say it's actually milder.

Heard a podcast advert earlier that went 'Are you bored? Why not get a job in the Nuclear sector?' which is not exactly reassuring is it!

Tonight's film was 'Vampire's Kiss', the film that launched a thousand memes, but it's more than that. It's a lot of fun to see the context for some of these Cage jokes, but his performance is genuinely good, maybe it's just because I watched Coyote Vs Acme earlier but he really is a living cartoon.

Read Swamp Thing #90 and #91 today, so impressed by the job DC did on these, the retro ads etc. What ‘lost media’ comics are even left? Big Numbers?

Really liked Legion Of Super-Heroes #1, I've always been someone who likes the idea of the Legion more than most executions so a total reboot works for me and I like that the focus is on the main 4 characters (and an androgynous Matter-Eater 'Lad') at first.

Watched 'Magnificent Obsession' tonight, my second Douglas Sirk melodrama and whilst this isn't quite as good as All That Heaven Allows it still delivers the goods. Also starring Rock Hudson and Jane Wyman who are perfect for the unique, heightened tone of these films.

Comparing the police response to today's events in Dover with their response to Palestine Action and other related protests, well it's enough to drive you insane isn't it.

If Leeds are drawing with the 'such a well run club, what a job they're doing down there' B-teams that's a sign they're actually good and competitive so I'll still take it!

Reading John Robins’ book about alcoholism in the pub… either a terrible idea or an amazing idea. You decide!!

Tonight's movie was a re-watch of 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga' which still rules. I think I prefer Fury Road for it's non-stop pace and better action but this is probably a richer movie, with fantastic performances from ATJ, Hemsworth and Tom Burke.

Ticket booked for Kneecap in Bradford in December… and with that my ‘at least one gig a month’ goal has been reached for 2026. Now what’s happening in January…

Fontaines DC ticket secured. I'm sensing a backlash against them brewing but I still rate them and last time they were fantastic live so... yay.
