‘Universities exist to move towards margins not away from them’ Excellent and thought provoking inaugural lecture by our new President @micireland.bsky.social Dermot Nestor last night on the importance of unlearning as much as learning and resistance and refusal as much as acceptance.

A true classic! After that I think my next vinyl wasn’t until my 40s when I started my current collection and that might have been Blondie in an Oxfam shop

Well first vinyl I owned was Last Christmas by Wham which I begged my older brother to buy for him - I think over 40 years later he hasn’t gotten over the embarrassment of asking for it in the shop

So far I've heard some really rich and interesting stories from my participants on how second-gen identity is negotiated in contemporary Ireland. Still looking for more participants, and would appreciate another push from my Irish followers if possible 🙏 #spéirghorm #identity #migration #Ireland

As the theme of #WorldMentalHealthDay this year is focused on ‘access to services’ it seems timely to throwback to research we published last year around parenting while experiencing mental health challenges and challenges in accessing support @rtebrainstorm.bsky.social www.rte.ie/brainstorm/2...

How can we support parents with mental health challenges?

Irish research estimates that roughly one in four families in Ireland have a parent who has experienced mental health difficulties

Working within Universities means that I often have the opportunity to hear incredible speakers on a wide range of topics but I think today’s talk @micireland.bsky.social by NASA astronaut Dan Tani might be the coolest talk I have been lucky enough to hear 🚀 🌍

How do the 'second-gen' make sense of who they are? How do discourses of 'Irishness' influence how they talk about belonging. The stories I have heard so far have been incredible, full of humour, candid vulnerability, and agency. I am really excited about where this research project is going.

What does it mean to call Ireland 'home'? What is it like to be asked 'where are you originally from?' How is 'Irishness' navigated and experienced amond second-generation young adults? If you know anyone who might be interested in taking part then please share with them 🙏
