Or they would be in Arlington with all the other teams…

Lee 2.0 @nextquestion.bsky.social · 08/02/2025

At least people care enough to panic… The whole notion of fandom isn’t exactly rational, so a level of irrationality comes with the package. #PullTogether

Yeah. The CFL has had a habit of making the mundane a complete gong show. The expectation to be stunned is so stunning that you’re not stunned…

Lee 2.0 @nextquestion.bsky.social · 06/02/2025

I thought that was one of the better reports. I like that they have background on how we got to this position. But I’m highly skeptical that it was a surprise to EVERYONE. Stuff like this never stays secret. Even if everyone says it’s a secret.

Lee 2.0 @nextquestion.bsky.social · 06/02/2025

That’s true. I guess I should’ve specified signed deals. But they still have to convince someone else to give them more money and if the GM‘s knew the cap numbers then there might not really be a change the situation.

010

Lee 2.0 @nextquestion.bsky.social · 06/02/2025

You’ll notice it doesn’t actually have the GM saying he didn’t know. They talked to the coach and they talked to the quarterback and they may have talked to the assistant waterboy but any suggestion that Kyle Walters didn’t know is complete speculation to make the story dramatic.

200

Lee 2.0 @nextquestion.bsky.social · 06/02/2025

The players have no grounds to back out of deals. They agreed to contracts for their services. It really doesn’t matter how much money the other guy has to spend.

Also, Mahomes would have been an Argo…

Lee 2.0 @nextquestion.bsky.social · 05/02/2025

There’s not many players we get to be bigger fans of 20 years after they played. Thank you for that and thank you for sharing. And I think your smile says it all.

Lee 2.0 @nextquestion.bsky.social · 05/02/2025

True, but at 29 he may the perfect age to be QB. There’s two routes to the CFL. One is straight outta college, but the other is after years of assorted pro experience. If he’s committed and takes to VA’s mentorship, Calgary’s got a significant upgrade to its QB room. #Stamps #XFL2020

For the record, I totally agree with your premise, but Rourke is the absolute worst example you could cite. He’s likely the exception. #unicorn

Lee 2.0 @nextquestion.bsky.social · 04/02/2025

Keyword is promotion. If he shows up at the Canucks game and does an interview on TV that’s promotion. And he doesn’t have to sell tickets if that exposure is selling corporate advertising and jerseys.

000

Lee 2.0 @nextquestion.bsky.social · 04/02/2025

Fair question. But I think Chad Kelly might be a better example of the downfalls of the marketing money can of worms.

110

Lee 2.0 @nextquestion.bsky.social · 04/02/2025

They easy sold $200k in Rourke Jerseys last year. Maybe even in the first month. And that interview you talk about blew up. The Lions couldn’t have spent enough money to get that kind of notice. The real question is, “Why isn’t everyone else doing it?”

This was one of my favourite Pods in a long time. Great interview and insight with Tim Kroeker, a man at the center of the action but completely unknown. Excellent work Third Down Gamble. Highly recommended listen. #CFL #CanadianFootball #RefsArePeopleToo

That patchwork field is horrific. “So you wanna play professional football..?” If you ever needed to define bush league this was it. #CFLUSA

The CFL feels like a league that Douglas Adams could have created. It would explain so much if the Grey Cup was crafted from leftover bits of an Infinite Improbability Drive… #thankyouforalltherouges

Lee 2.0 @nextquestion.bsky.social · 05/01/2025

That’s definitely time dependant. And also a lot of people that say they don’t, actually care a lot. They’ll act like the relocated team is irrelevant and then gleefully celebrate when they F up.

000

Lee 2.0 @nextquestion.bsky.social · 05/01/2025

Absolutely. You should be. And that is the basis of a fantastic rivalry. When fans actually have a reason to dislike that’s so much better than “because I don’t like your face!” Also… what is this noooo-unce you speak of?

100

Lee 2.0 @nextquestion.bsky.social · 05/01/2025

Fair. But the current team in Montreal isn’t keeping the expos history alive…

010

Lee 2.0 @nextquestion.bsky.social · 05/01/2025

However, there’s something appealing about playing against the past. Especially if the current team can win and exorcise the demons associated with losing the team to begin with. IF.
