10 years of NextGen climate advocacy in CA! 🎉 In 2025, NextGen, climate & environmental justice advocates succeeded in getting #CapAndInvest reauthorized. It will generate funding for the state's community programs & aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Learn more: go.nextgenpolicy.org/R9yt
10 years of NextGen Anniversary logo spotlighting Climate Solutions Issue Area. NextGen’s 10th anniversary highlighting Cap & Invest Reauthorization.2025: NextGen partnered with environmental justice and climate advocates to strengthen and reauthorize California’s signature greenhouse gas emissions reduction program, Cap & Invest. The extension of the program puts California on a path to reach our 2045 Net Zero emissions goals while generating critical revenue for public programs and services across the state.
There is still more work to be done to strengthen the program through the regulatory process and to ensure adequate levels of funding are allocated for community air protection programs in environmental justice communities.

In celebration of NextGen’s 10th anniversary, we look to our 2022 climate win! 🎉 NextGen mobilized a coalition & succeeded in securing over $40B for the CA Climate Commitment to implement clean energy sources, address public transit infrastructure, reduce pollution & invest in CA's community.
10 years of NextGen Anniversary logo spotlighting Climate Solutions Issue Area. NextGen’s 10th anniversary highlighting The $54 Billion CA Climate Commitment. 2022, NextGen coordinated a coalition of partners in advocating for the largest per-capita investment to fight climate change in U.S. history - $54 billion dollars committed to deploying clean electricity, zero-emission vehicles, public transit infrastructure, wildfire solutions, community resilience programs, and much more.
Through our Climate 100 project, NextGen tracked the growth of the commitment and built the policy case and narrative for California to go big on climate. Subsequent budget deficits reduced the commitment total by several billion dollars; ultimately, the state spent over 40 billion dollars on climate programs included in the initial agreement.

A big loss for Californians as the approved Charter/Cox Communications merger by the @californiapuc.bsky.social will impact broadband access, while leaving some consumer protections unaddressed. Read the #DigitalEquity advocates’ full statement on the merger: go.nextgenpolicy.org/vu2V
Quote from Arturo Juarez, NextGen Policy Advisor: “Yesterday, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) approved the Charter/Cox Communications merger. From the start, this merger always seemed inevitable - what wasn’t inevitable was Californians once again losing as a result. It’s no secret large scale market consolidation continues to erode consumer choice, service quality standards, and affordability for everyday Californians. With the passage of an abnormal, secondary & significantly weaker “alternative” approval decision - with less protections, benefits, and mitigation measures - than what community stakeholders had pushed for (and what was possible), the Commission has fallen well short of the mark, and consumers all across our great state will now pay the price.” NextGen California Logo.
