Here's my sad academic job search map update. I now place my odds of getting a new position at 10%. If I do not get a new position, I'm taking sabbatical exit for fall with full pay, not working, then driving around the country in the Impreza. I'll burn my retirement money if need be.

Hurricane Isaias is undergoing rapid intensification, and from satellite imagery and recon data, I bet this thing approaches Cat 4 later today. It'll weaken before landfall, but I'm betting it hauls onshore as Cat 3.

In the U.S. at least part of the problem here is except for minimum wage jobs, most people need to be up to relocate for better paying jobs/careers. This means disconnection from family that upends that circumstance.

Last RT... I remember there was a Stop n' Shop that went-in where we lived back around 1992-93. Since it was a drive, my parents would do a once per month stock-up there. We'd get 3x *full* carts of groceries for like $150.
