Over the past month we've introduced the remarkable world of #Myxomycetes—from giant single cells to intricate fruiting bodies. If you'd like to learn how to find, identify, and study slime molds yourself, our new online course is now open. #slimemoldSunday www.newyorkmyc.org/courses/myxo...

One of the joys of studying slime molds is realizing that an organism only a millimeter tall can have extraordinary microscopic architecture. Beautiful spores. Elegant capillitium. Intricate fruiting bodies. Tiny doesn't mean simple. #Myxomycetes #Microscopy #SlimeMoldSunday

One of our favorite biology facts: A slime mold plasmodium is a single cell. Not a colony. Not thousands of cells. One enormous multinucleate cell that slowly crawls through the forest before transforming into fruiting bodies. Nature never stops surprising us. #Myxomycetes #Biology

Most people walk right past them. Slime molds (#Myxomycetes) aren't fungi—they're #amoeboid organisms that spend part of their lives as giant single cells before producing intricate fruiting bodies only millimeters tall. Once you start looking, forests become very different places. #SlimeMolds
