I'm just a guy. Looking at payroll software. Asking it to be user-friendly enough that I don't need to spend hours of my day bouncing between customer service agents to run payroll. Gotta love #smallbusiness. Also, I've got like four stories to write. Deep breaths.

These under routes followed by hard nose runs up the middle are clearly pretty predictable. But then Moore can’t hit the long ball so maybe they don’t have any other options. Tough to watch. #GoDucks

Honestly? Props to ‘em recognizing the danger/time waste. I coached lacrosse at South Eugene years ago and their football team was never a priority. And that’s okay. Side note: they have an incredible ultimate frisbee team (or did, at least). www.oregonlive.com/highschoolsp...

Maybe it's because we're all together, but there is a lot of hope. Maybe it feels like we've hit the bottom and we're now bouncing back up. Maybe its because the sentiment is turning, specifically for locally-owned news rooms. Either way, it's energizing and I'm thankful for this community.

6. Collaboration instead of competition. If we can work together, from group resourcing to collaborative grant hunting, many hands makes light work. 7. No surprises: there were several panels about responsible AI use. There seems to be a consensus — no editorial work, but the rest is fair game.

4. Young journalists need experience, and we need to find a way to place them in these small and rural newsrooms where they can learn, while the newsroom benefits as well. 5. There's a lot of potential and energy surrounding legislation and how the state can support local publications.

Branden Andersen | Newsberg @newsberg.org · 30/07/2026
2. Print in small communities is alive and well, but not everywhere. It seems most of the historic papers retain a print edition, while most startups start digital-only. 3. Resourcing is the number one issue. Newsrooms are shrinking or, like Newsberg, holding at one person. It's not sustainable.

From a conglomerate-owned paper. So much of this makes my skin crawl. Not only are they using AI when they have designers on staff, but also the whole poster is so horribly vague. They didn't even take the time to regionalize or localize it. Clearly sent out to the 250+ outlets unchanged. Yuck.
