Dual mechanisms give rise to biphasic stomatal opening in onion Tomkins et al. nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
Finite element method models with meshes directly extracted from confocal microscopy images of the mature onion adaxial epidermis demonstrate how guard cell opening can be achieved with an isotropic material.

More flowers, smaller size: dicamba drift reshapes weed-pollinator interactions Botran et al. @gbaucom.bsky.social nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
Two-panel conceptual diagram. Panel A shows four line graphs of fitness in control versus drift conditions, illustrating undercompensation (all lines decline), tolerance (all lines flat), overcompensation (all lines increase), and mixed response (lines diverge in different directions), each with multiple shaded lines representing different genetic lines. Panel B shows a biphasic dose-response curve: fitness rises above the control baseline at a low, drift-relevant herbicide dose (labeled "hormesis"), then declines sharply at higher, agronomic field doses.

Instant generation of four-parent-derived autotetraploid rice through an in vitro fertilisation system A #Letter by Sakoda et al. 👇 📖 nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... #LatestIssue #PlantScience
Conventional breeding approaches aimed at crop improvement have been based on hybridisation through crosses between two parental lines or autopolyploidisation through genome duplication in a single parental line. These restrict the number and combination of parental genomes that can be combined in a single generation and are rarely co-applicable. This study demonstrated that in vitro fertilisation (IVF)-based autopolyploidisation using multiple parents is a viable approach that can combine the advantages of hybridisation and polyploidy in rice.
