I can have a treat. I biked miles to the park. It’s a lovely day. How could they mess up ice cream? *ahem* “Contains bioengineered ingredients” The list of ingredients is impossibly long. It’s a chocolate coated vanilla bar. $3.50 for a 3 fl. Oz. Bar (less than half a cup). That’s $18/pint.

Thank you, City of St. Paul, for the protected bikeways leading to Como Park. Sitting in front of the conservatory, the running water and autumn colorful leaves are rejuvenating! Did the water always run this late, or is that a climate change thing? And they’re watering the plants in the heatwave.

The friend would’ve waved to the camera if they saw it earlier. It’s better to smile for the oligarchs, lest they accuse you of not being polite. Because, to the oligarchs, politeness and convenience is more important than equity or sustainability. #aninconvenienttruth

Yes, we need to act on climate change. Agreed. But change your “no atheists in foxholes” messaging. That old trope is nonsense. And from someone who has “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle” in his profile?

Was the cap on tight? Water (and air) expand as they get warmer. But I'm not sure that'd be enough to crack the glass (when the expanding water has nowhere to go).

Poverty porn portrays the poor as "others", but electeds need to address "normal"/"everyday" people & families in your neighborhood/city/suburb that literally can't afford a government-recommended healthy diet. Reductions in SNAP eligibility are making this worse. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImRu...

Since so many bikes fit in the space of 1 car, you'd think there'd be a law that every day the State Fair needs to take away one more car space & expand the bike parking until there's 10% extra bike parking available. More people will bike when it's more convenient, cheaper, & better than driving.

It’s ridiculous that every “BRT” doesn’t have bus lanes* *at a minimum. BRT should have dedicated right of way, like the gold line. Keeping it non-separated is just car infrastructure. (Not criticizing you)

I really don’t think we’re all taking this nearly seriously enough — Meta is legally admitting that it harms young people and is paying BILLIONS (but not nearly enough billions considering how much they knowingly and intentionally profit off that harm) to avoid proper accountability.

That's just a random example (though indeed interesting with the cost of chocolate nowadays: consumers & farmers are screwed, but the middlemen oligarchs, well they're doing just fine, thanks to a captured political system). But the contrast to American news couldn't be bigger.

But modern zoning laws don't allow adding a store to the front of your house, no matter how busy or commercial the street already is. And long-running businesses passed down to children often had the children move to the suburbs when cars became the de facto mode of transportation.

Lou Miranda @newlou.bsky.social · 02/08/2026
Many times, especially for businesses around for decades, the original shop *was* owned by a family that lived in the neighborhood (back when people took the streetcar or walked) or even upstairs in an apartment (or behind the storefront, back when it was legal to add a business to your house)

Spike Lee's movie is a movie, not a documentary, of course. Based on the life of Malcolm X, but things are tweaked to keep the viewers' interest, shorten the story, combine characters, include dialog, etc. It's not a Ken Burns film, lol.

You'd be surprised how many urban, local, small businesses are owned by people living in the suburbs & exurbs. Never assume a "local" business is owned by someone living in your city or neighborhood.

Not to worry: police misdeeds aren't just a Minneapolis or Minnesota or United States thing. In NI (Northern Ireland, UK), the PSNI (Police Service of Northern Ireland) apparently spied on journalists, & arrested filmmakers documenting police collusion with — guess what? — Nazi-adjacent fascists.

"... the Twin Cities hit 100 degrees on July 27. Of course, that rapid and extreme heat earlier in the month helped set the stage for fires to blow up in Ontario and northern Minnesota, which helped us set a record for the worst air quality ever measured in the state from July 15 to July 17."
