45 long-term care beds planned for Corner Brook Community Health Centre
The provincial government is investing $21 million to add 45 long-term care beds at the Corner Brook Community Health Centre, with the first spaces expected to open next year. Woman arrested following assault in east-end St. John’s
A 64-year-old woman is facing multiple charges following an alleged assault in the east end of St. John’s. RNC officers responded to a report of an assault at about 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 30. Following an investigation, officers located and arrested the woman believed to be responsible. She was charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats and breaching a release order. The woman was transported to the St. John’s City Lock-Up and held for court Thursday morning.

There will be an announcement in Corner Brook today on the expansion of addictions treatment and recovery services. Three cruise ships in port in St. John's today
The cruise ship season is continuing as we move into October. Three cruise ships will be in port today. The Seabourn Ovation, which arrived yesterday, will depart at 5:00 p.m. The ship is carrying 638 passengers. Both the Star Pride and the National Geographic Explorer are expected today, with the National Geographic Explorer remaining in port until Friday. Tomorrow, the L'Austral will visit St. John's.

Showers and drizzle for parts of the province today
Some drizzle is expected along the south coast of the Island today. We will see more clouds than sun on the Burin Peninsula. Sunny skies are expected elsewhere. Expect highs from 13 to 20. Pilot stabbed in attempted high jacking on FlyDubai flight
There was terror in the skies above Jordan and Saudi Arabia on Wednesday aboard a FlyDubai flight according to reports. According to officials, a pilot on the flight from the United Arab Emirates to Israel stabbed another pilot. After stabbing the pilot, they then attempted to crash the plane. The flight was carrying 170 people. In a bid to save the aircraft, passengers overtook the attacker. The plane later landed safely in Saudi Arabia. There was no word on the motivation behind the attack.

RNC stop driver owing over $13,000 in fines
A 28-year-old man had his vehicle impounded after a traffic stop in St. John’s on Tuesday morning. RNC officers conducted the stop around 8:55 a.m. on September 29 in the area of Frecker Drive. Police issued the man summary offence tickets for driving without vehicle registration and insurance. A records check found the man had more than $13,000 in outstanding fines. MRI services coming to Grand Falls-Windsor
On Tuesday, Premier Tony Wakeham announced that a new MRI scanner will be added to the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor. This marks the first time that MRI services will be offered in Grand Falls-Windsor. There is also a plan to put an MRI scanner in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and two more new MRIs in other areas of the province. Driver charged after traffic stop in city centre
A 53-year-old driver faces criminal charges following a traffic stop in the city centre on Monday afternoon. RNC Officers conducted the stop around 3 p.m. on September 28. City offices in St. John's to close for National Truth and Reconciliation Day
Wednesday is National Truth and Reconciliation Day. To mark the day, there will be several closures and cancellations in St. John's. Most City offices, facilities and all Community Centres will be closed on Wednesday. Transit service to resume in Happy Valley-Goose Bay

Last night the Halifax Mooseheads went head-to-head with the Newfoundland Regiment at the Mary Brown's Centre. In overtime, the Mooseheads took the game by a score of 4 to 3.
