Yeah, the annoyance really boils down to things that feel like they lessen the gravity of the situation. It's misleading. "Hi friends, I'm kinsidering ___!" sounds almost jokey compared to something like, "I've discovered ____ might be an integral part of my inner person." I want people to know how

For sure! Those spaces can absolutely end up being gateways to learning of the self. Roleplaying was a big one for me way back when, allowing me explore being a machine. That said, if one learns that it doesn't go deeper than the for-fun aspects, one shouldn't co-opt the Otherkin community's terms.

that can sometimes be a good time, but sometimes it's terrifying. Sometimes it throws one upside down and applies so much G-force to the sense of self that the sense of self almost breaks. It's a profound and very real experience for a lot of us that is not to be taken lightly.

Exactly. Even if KFF is not the user's intention, kin-as-a-verb comes across as less serious. It feels like something silly or merely a thing to do for fun. Despite how often I talk about euphoria/the upsides, it's been a long and exhausting journey of the self to me, a long, drawn-out rollercoaster

they're sincere about it from the depths of their being, I'm all for it. It's the KFF, the folks who aren't really sincere, who just use being otherkin like a plaything or something cool and fun to do (where the kin-as-a-verb originated and I think why the usage leaves a foul taste in my mouth,)

It's been annoying me since it started being used in the 2010's. It does seem to be a lot more prevalent in the younger crowd, but that could also be solely because the older crowd already had established language for saying what our kintypes are. I like the simple, "I am a ___."

Of course, language evolves and yada yada... but I can't help feeling a tiny part of me die a little bit inside when I read it, and I just have to express my annoyance. I always bite my tongue when I see it in Discord servers or on r/otherkin. I tell people to use whatever language they want.

My otherkin hot take: "Kin" isn't a verb. Its use as a verb, i.e. "kinning," or, "I kin ___," originated with the Kin-For-Fun folks. Otherkin is something one is, not something one does. Can we, as a community not doing this shit for fun, please leave kin-as-a-verb in the past? Geezer console out.

Regardless of health, many people do many different things that come with "health risks" because they make the person happy, or even convenience. Dysphoria was far more a risk to my life than being fat ever will be. Fat is how I'm happy in my skin, so 'too bad' for anyone who's offended by my peace.

The implications of such an "awakening" event are fun to speculate on. Even in my own case- it would mean folks'd have to come to the understanding that the objects around them do indeed think, perceive, and feel. Imagine the legal battle we (objects) would have to fight to gain legal personhood!

Yeah! There are a handful of them that happen throughout the year, and they're pretty accessible because they're free and all online. Centaurus Festival happens in the Spring. Shining Hearth happens late Spring?? OtherCon happens in Summer, and then HowlCon happens in Autumn.

There is a bit of a machinekin community, but we have kept to our own for the most part because the therian and otherkin communities were once not very welcoming to us (and sometimes still aren't.) I run a server for machine & objectkin on Discord. I'll gladly give you an invite if you'd like!

Felt. Weed chills out the dysphoria to tolerable levels. Works most of the time. I think the weed makes me feel the body less, so I feel more of my cerebral experience, the phantom things, and the cognitive things. It allows me a respite from the body.
