Mad Pride Panel 2024
This Panel took place on 1st of August 2024 as part of our Festival. Gillian MCed a live panel with some amazing community members who identify under the Mad Umbrella. Both before, and during the event you are welcome to submit questions. Join us as we discuss the stigma that can be faced by those who fall under the Mad side of the Neurodivergent banner. Below is a list of Panellists’ bios. We aim to have as many of our videos captioned as possible upon premiering and, for those that aren't, our volunteers will continue working on captioning them and will upload a captioned version as soon as they can. Feel free to watch this in your own time. Neuro Pride Ireland does not intend to take down any videos from our Youtube channel- unless the original creator requests it or we have replaced it with a more accessible version. Vic Kelly-Victor (they/them) has OCD, autism and cPTSD. They're also agender, panromantic, demisexual, deaf, paraplegic and dyspraxic. Alongside those marginalised aspects of their identity, they're white, settled Irish, often with a masculine gender presentation, and fully prepared to leverage that white, male-passing privilege in their work with Wexford Pride and TENI. Having studied science and linguistics, they often go on deep dives into the ways we scientifically, medically and socially stigmatise mad and physically disabled realities — how we use language to make people's reality or identity seem dangerous. But they're not always serious: you can also find them on stage doing comedy about their many disabilities. Daniella Bella (she/they) is a disabled, neurodivergent, queer, trans writer & artist. As a dissociative plural, she lives alongside three other alters, who also contribute to their collective activism. They’ve been a community organiser since their teens, having done work on LGBTQIA+, disabled, & reproductive rights, among other issues. They create comics and art to educate and connect around these issues, as well as creating a romance comic. They are an Organiser with Neuro Pride Ireland, a DPO which facilitates community spaces, & engages in advocacy on a cross-neurodivergency basis and contributed to the Scrap The Green Paper campaign. Mostly they are sleeping though, because naps are the best. Cír Doyle (they/them) is a disabled, neurodivergent, queer person with too many labels to name in one quick bio. They proudly identify as Mad as someone with BPD, OCD, cPTSD and PTSD. They are a co-founder of Neuro Pride Ireland and have been advocating for better mental health services and acceptance alongside the other Neuro Pride organisers since its inception. Blezzing Dada (she/her/they), from Dublin, Ireland, is a multiple award-winning Black-Irish mental health activist, speaker & blogger, who’s an outspoken passionate on various social justice issues, especially on a focus of intersectionality within the mental health spaces, shaped by liberatory care, transformative justice, harm reduction & anti-capitalist frameworks. Accompanied with her own lived experiences with all things mental health, being multiple chronically ill, sick, neurodivergent, disabled and mad, they shed perspectives, uncommonly heard for Black & other ethnic minority + further marginalised communities in Ireland. Being involved with numerous community groups, she can be found participating in mutual aid work, podcasts & writing to spread awareness: through empathy and education "Intersectionality & collective liberation includes awareness on sanism (akin to racism or sexism.) This idea of madness lies at the center of a movement called Mad Studies, which arose out of the work of psychiatric service users and survivors. There are lots of problems with the biological model of mental illness that dominates society’s response to ‘madness’."
