In January, it’ll be 10 years since I got the call that I had a PhD spot in Geoff’s lab. Grateful every day since, but especially the days I get to poke around and learn something new about sensory neurons 🤩

Tonight’s byte of wisdom from Cajal. Seems just as apt for visual communication through slides and figures.
Highlighted text from Santiago Ramon y Cajal’s ‘Advice for a Young Investigator’: "A well-chosen word can save an enormous amount of thought," because to name is to classify, to establish ideal affiliations-analogous relationships between little-known phenomena, and to identify the general idea or principle wherein they lie latent, like the tree within its seed.

Seems like Santiago Ramon y Cajal would be a big fan of @nightsciencepod.bsky.social
First page of the Introduction in Santiago Ramon y Cajal’s book ‘Advice for a Young Investigator’ with highlighted text: “major sources of knowledge include observation, experiment, and reasoning by induction and deduction … for the last hundred years the natural sciences have abandoned completely the Aristotelian principles of intuition, inspiration, and dogmatism.”
