For now, I'm trying my best to plan ahead: keep my resume updated, build skills, get certifications, and understand what kind of life I want. Game dev can always become a hobby again, but what can replace my income is a whole other story. It's rough out there in general. (views are my own)

Fortunately, I'm not directly impacted. But my heart goes out to those who were directly impacted. People with decades of experience are suddenly being uprooted. That's heartbreaking and...it just tells me that being a game dev is a dream job that you can easily wake up from. It's cutthroat.

I said this before and I'll say it again but if my father who was born in 1947 in a rural village deep in the goddamn mountains in Japan could become fluent in English, no one needs to use genAI to learn a new language. :| In fact, I'd argue it would be detrimental to properly learn a new language.
