Another lovely sunset. The scent of woodsmoke in the air as the owls began calling from the woodland by the stream.

Before I get to the end of this year's tomatoes I need to make tomato jam for savoury jam tarts. It is fabulous! 6lb (3kg) ripe tomatoes, 10 Tbs lemon juice, rind 2 lemons, 5lb (2.5kg) preserving sugar, 8oz (250g) ginger in syrup drained & chopped. Make into jam in usual way 🍅😋 🍽 #HomeCooking

Look at my homegrown melons! These are 'Petit Gris de Rennes', a small hierloom Breton Charentais variety cultivated in the gardens of the Bishop of Rennes c 1636. Small with grey-green skin the flesh is orange, juicy & very sweet. I have just eaten one for lunch 😋

Winter food crops have germinated well in this autumn warmth. Asian greens, mustards, turnips, cold hardy lettuce, collard greens & mooli. I have a few more to sow today - cabbages, chard, beetroot & spring onions. Let us hope they all thrive to give me fresh greens til spring 🌱

Rainy day preserving. With food prices only going up I am trying to eat what I grow & can harvest, buying in as little as possible except meat from the butcher & dairy from the milkman. Today is all about prepping green & runner beans for the freezer & damsons for jam

Oh no! Poor Uppingham. The very precious Norton & Sons Ironmongers is up for sale. Please let it be saved as an ongoing business. I go there weekly for all the myriads of things they always stock. This town needs proper shops who serve the community & Norton's has been superb.
