Agreed. By the third Christmas cake's worth I'm definitely feeling full.

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

I recommend skipping the cake and just eating icing and marzipan instead.

That'll do for the evening. Think I'm happy with the palette, so now it's on to textures and volumes.

Aaaaah, okay! That's heartening to hear.

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

I had a lot of love for the early Legacy of Kain games from back in the day. Blood Omen was great fun, then Soul Reaver was obviously a blast. Disappointing to hear that the remasters haven't held up :(

I'm off to SMC next week (www.scalemodelchallenge.com) and haven't painted anything that I feel is suitable to take into competition. Obviously the sane thing to do is start a new piece with only nine days to go. Time for the Baba Yaga bust from Abyssoul (www.abyssoul.com/products/bab...) then!

There's always some motherfucker trying to ice skate uphill.

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

To build on that, I'd recommend this video (www.youtube.com/watch?v=iinU...) by the lovely @jhminiatures.bsky.social emulating Daz's NMM.

... did a Bugmans burger break your finger?

Obviously that's Vae Victis, despite my tiredness and my phone's insistence on autocorrect. Well done, Dave.

Fun day out at Spru. Said hello to friends and bought a few models from Vae Victims, Finsterfey and Owlshield (Necropolis28). A promising first year event!

Alone mini bust from Mindworks Art Studio. Been a while since I picked up the brushes for anything other than tabletop so this was a nice, quick project to spend a couple of hours on. Size comparison against a penny for the size queens among you.

Loved it then, still think it's brill. Depressingly, it remains relatable.

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 24/09/2026

That was seven years before Dark City!

010

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

And to be fair, that swede of yours is pretty massive already.

110

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Oooh, good luck with that!

Vikings. Doing violence on the field of battle, and on the assembly table.

000

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

Cheers! Yes, it's a corker. Gorgeous artwork on that issue from Wayne England too. One of my favourites from back in the day.

030

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

That's probably a fair concern tbh. They're a bit spicier on cracking down these days.

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

If it goes up in flames? Vanpyre.

020

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

Thank'ee. Got your smashing purity seal magnetised on my paint box still too. You make good things.

110

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

Yeah, that was a cracking cast. Enjoyed painting mine! bsky.app/profile/nero...

You really sank that hoop. Or whatever.

I haven't, but he should. Let's be mean and pull his pigtails until he does. I think it's qntm's best novel. The others have excellent ideas but just don't hang together as well as consistent, coherent stories. The ideas alone make them worth checking out though.

110

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

I picked it up in 2022 and it's been hammered by me and friends since then, as I keep passing it round so other people can enjoy and then buy their own copy.

110

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

I don't know what that means but I assume it's a basketballing thing, so well done on making it topical.

110

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

One of my favourite books of recent years. Gripping. The fact he's only now being "properly" published is wild.

110

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

This was great. Thoroughly enjoyed it with my son. Never saw it on the big screen in the 80s, so being able to experience it with the boy was a real moment. The little tribute for Peter Cullen at the end got the room pretty darned dusty. Goodness.

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

The mighty Count Binface. I didn't want to paint it in black and grey like every other version, so I imagined this is how he looks when strolling through woodlands on his home planet, with his natural colours, rather than the dowdiness he's forced to endure when visiting our planet.

Do you get all the seats for that?

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

It's a week until #SPRU. Excited to get back up to Nottingham for the first time in a couple of years. If anyone's around next week, a couple of us will be at WHW on Friday afternoon too.

140

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

Will do! We can conversationally geek out over it next weekend.

110

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

Taking my son to see it tomorrow morning, as it's a favourite film for both of us, but sssh secret as he doesn't know! Never saw it as a kid at the cinema, but wore the heck out of the VHS of it. It's going to be awesome on the big screen.

110

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

I think it's unfortunate nominative determinism.

220

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

Haha, cheers :) It's a great model, but I don't think I've painted a whole at this scale before, so trying to gauge how best to approach it is a challenge.

011

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

Haha, cheers. It's getting there, but there's just so much of him to cover. Be finished in the next couple of weeks.

010

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

Go on then. One more WIP for a rainy day.

Close up of a giant's face with a reddish nose and yellowing teeth.

2231

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

Yep. Massive on the album production side too. I keep meaning to look at some of the remasters he's done for other bands, as they're well regarded.

010

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

He's a delight. I see he's loving the bass again too. His opening to Porcupine Tree's Harridan is brutal.

110

Dave @nerodine.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

Bit of WIP today on a few models. Very much at different points in the sizing scale.
