State bar elections will continue to be critically important.
Blanche also said the Justice Department is moving to insulate its attorneys from ethics complaints administration critics have filed with local bar authorities in various states and Washington, D.C., seeking action against those lawyers' bar licenses.

"The D.C. Bar in particular is one of the most activist, obnoxious bars when it comes to going after conservative lawyers. It's out of this world," he said, appearing to reference a disbarment effort against former DOJ lawyer Jeffrey Clark, a key figure in Trump's bid to subvert the 2020 election.

Pam Bondi tweets

#1 A single district court in Rhode Island should not be able to seize center stage in the shutdown, seek to upend political negotiations that could produce swift political solutions for SNAP and other programs, and dictate its own preferences for how scarce federal funds should be spent.

#2 With hours to go before the TRO compliance clock runs, and the First Circuit waiting to deny immediate relief until minutes ago, we have filed an emergency stay application in the Supreme Court requesting immediate relief.

#3 As our Supreme Court brief puts it:
"The core power of Congress is that of the purse, while the Executive is tasked with allocating limited resources across competing priorities. But here, the court below took the current shutdown as effective license to declare a federal bankruptcy and appoint itself the trustee, charged with picking winners and losers among those seeking some part of the limited pool of remaining federal funds."

I’m taking this as “the optics of the voting results are bad, but the board will rubber stamp the investment in due course.” As an aside, it’s kind of weird he had to ask. Were there really so many retail idiots voting live that they could move the needle?
Near the end of the meeting in Austin, Texas, Musk asked whether the xAI proposal had been approved.
As someone started to explain the vote tallies, he interrupted, "OK, OK whatever."

I can’t help but think of Unity Mitford stealing a Jewish couple’s apartment out from under them in the late ‘30s.

Mitford is reported to have visited one apartment to discuss her decoration and design plans while the soon-to-be-dispossessed residents, a Jewish couple, sat in the kitchen crying.

Easy way to tell Everytown is full of shit about “stand your ground” laws: Compare their map with the more accurate map from Wikipedia. They omit states like California that have adopted “stand your ground” through common law/jury instruction. Duty to retreat states are outliers.
Everytown map falsely states “21 states have rejected this policy.” Examples include CA, CO, IL, NM, OR, VT, VA and WA, all of which have case law or jury instructions that make them “stand your ground” states. More nuanced map from Wikipedia identifying states that have adopted “stand your ground” laws, states that have implemented “stand your ground” through common law/jury instruction, states that take a middle ground approach, and outlie states that impose a duty to retreat.

If hell exists, there is a special place in it for Trinity Flood, owner of the raided apartment building and now confirmed DHS collaborator. I’d love to know more about the records reviewed by the NYT and whether they investigated ISP’s potential role. Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2025/10/19/u...
The Raid
The operation began with a confidential tip, officials said.
Officials have not said who tipped them off, but records show that agents carried out the raid with the consent of the owner, and that they targeted apartments that they were told were not currently being rented and were presumably occupied by squatters.
Several residents said that agents had left some apartments alone while bursting into others. Miyah Hill, 22, said some residents who peeked into the hallway during the raid were ordered to go back inside. One man who asked not to be identified because he was still living in the building, said he had found a floor plan of the building in the aftermath of the raid with some apartments shaded in green, others in white and some in red.Another Border Patrol official, who did not agree to be named because he works undercover, said that gang members were squatting in units and extorting people in the complex, and that the building owner had not been able to get them out.
Just after 1 a.m. on the night of the raid, Mr.
McGraw, the first-floor resident, peered out of his apartment's first-floor windows and saw federal officers approach and cut through the back door with a power saw.
As the federal agents roamed through the hallway, Mr. McGraw heard one of them say,
"There's a whole village on the second floor."

That’s a lot of words to say “Making me pay my fair share of taxes is Satanic.”
The world's richest, in his view, think too little about their identities as billionaires and what will become of their treasures after death.

That's how Thiel said he persuaded Musk. He said he looked up actuarial tables and found the probability of Musk's death in the coming year equated to giving $1.4 billion to Gates, who has long sparred with the Tesla CEO.

"What am I supposed to do-give it to my children?" Musk responded, in Thiel's telling. “You know, it would be much worse to give it to Bill Gates."

Such fortunes, Thiel said, could help counter an Antichrist, if global tax and sanctions machinery do not seize the money first.

This shit is sanctionable. Fuck Eric Wessan. Burn his bar card.
Indeed, many reports suggest that much of the violence and destruction caused by these riots can be traced to a few organizations funding the riots, see id., or individuals moving between
the States encouraging this type of behavior, see Wiley, et al., supra, [FN]

The pervasiveness of these coordinated attacks cannot be underestimated. They have resulted in the President declaring Antifa a domestic terrorist organization due to its explicit "calls for the overthrow of the United States Government, law enforcement authorities, and our system
of law." Designating Antifa as a Domestic Terrorist Organization, 90 Fed Reg. 46317, 46317 (Sept. 22, 2025). To accomplish its goals, Antifa organizes and executes a campaign to "obstruct enforcement of Federal laws through armed standoffs with law enforcement, organized riots,
violent assaults on Immigration and Customs Enforcement [ICE] and other law enforcement officers, and routine doxing of and other threats against political figures and activists." Id.

[FN] Indeed, this type of interstate movement has occurred before. Take for example the riots that occurred in 2020. Destruction due to rioting occurred in at least 20 States, Jennifer A. Kingson, Exclusive: S1 billion-plus riot damage is most expensive in insurance history and rioters, AXIOS (Sept. 16, 2020), https://bit.ly/4q0xRcc, and some rioters moved between jurisdictions. After rioting occurred in Minnesota in 2020, arrest records showed that out of 18 people arrested in St. Paul, 6 were not from Minnesota, and out of 109 people arrested in Minneapolis, 16 were not from another state. Trevor Hughes, Protests in Minneapolis turned violent: Officials first blamed outsiders, but that's not what arrests show, USA Today (updated June 4, 2020, at 3:39 pm), https://bit.ly/3IZuZvw.However, arrest data shows otherwise. The overwhelming majority of people who posted on social media from the precinct fire and those arrested Friday night at the protests in the Twin Cities live in the area, according to USA TODAY's review of police jail records and almost 100,000 tweets.

A civil arrest list provided by the public information officer of the St. Paul Police Department shows 12 of the 18 people arrested from Thursday through 6 a.m.
Saturday were from Minnesota. Five of them are from St. Paul, three are from Woodbury (part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area, two are from Minneapolis, one is from
Mankato and one is from St. Louis Park. Four are from out of state and two did not have cities of residence listed.

And the Minneapolis logs show 93 of the 109 people arrested in the city between Thursday night and Saturday morning reside in-state.

I look forward to the (otherwise bleak) day when the general public also sees our predicament this clearly.
Think about it this way. Either what Trump is doing is legal, or it is illegal.

If it is legal, then Trumpism must be defeated and there then must be a concerted effort to reform the law-and possibly even the Constitution-to prevent the next authoritarian attempt.

If it is illegal, then eventually, someone has to go to jail for what this administration is doing to the country.

If this story doesn't end with one of those two outcomes, then we will see it replayed again.

And again.

That is the reality we face. I hope you'll decide to face it with us.

But the PLCAA is not about negligence. It’s about criminal conduct by 3rd parties. No one can sue GM bc they’re deliberately run down with a Suburban. GM was not the proximate cause of that harm. Can’t see why this law would be needed unless the companies were being harassed by plaintiffs’ firms.
WIKIPEDIA

Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act

The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) is a U.S law, passed in 2005, that protects firearms manufacturers and dealers from being held liable when crimes have been committed with their products. Both arms manufacturers and dealers can still be held liable for damages resulting from defective products, breach of contract, criminal misconduct, and other actions for which they are directly responsible. However, they may be held liable for negligent entrustment if it is found that they had reason to believe a firearm was intended for use in a crime.

As a corporate lawyer, I see exactly how this happened. She paraphrased language from their recent PR about Kavanaugh stops without realizing that we’re talking about two different things. This is why we tell clients in comms to use previously approved language or have changes reviewed.
To the mainstream media's chagrin, there are no “indiscriminate stops" being made. The Supreme Court simply applied longstanding precedent regarding what qualifies as "reasonable suspicion" under the Fourth Amendment. What makes someone a target of ICE is if they are illegally in the U.S. DHS enforces federal immigration law without fear, favor, or prejudice.

The entire newsletter is worth your time, but the section on tokenization as regulatory arbitrage is particularly great.
If your theory of tokenization is "this is 100% a regulatory arbitrage and not at all a technology thing," you will naturally spend less time on building technology and more time on building, uh, regulatory relationships.

Anyway here's this:

Zach Witkoff would like to make the Trump family's real estate portfolio available as tokens on blockchain, giving access to a wider pool of investors.

"The Trump family has one of the most exciting real estate asset portfolios in the world," Witkoff said in an interview at Token2049 in Singapore, speaking alongside Donald Trump Jr. "What if I told you that you could, you know, go on an exchange and buy one token of Trump Tower Dubai?"

Witkoff is the son of US special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and co-founder of World Liberty Financial, started together with the Trump family last year.
