I don’t know why that post attracted so many weirdos, but this reply was also Louvre of LinkedIn-worthy. I’d just submit that, if you’re putting the word “civilized” in scare quotes, it’s time to rethink your entire values system

People like you too often make the mistake of assuming the US should emulate some other
"civilized" nation. The US is not like other nations, and it is not like Canada. The US needs its own solutions and it won't emulate those of the other
"civilized" nations.

It’s all relative. When someone posted this screenshot from my Edmonton video on LinkedIn, the CEO of some parking lobbyist organization ‘splained to me that the reason Edmonton has *checks notes* like 40x the ridership of OKC is because Edmonton is actually a dense metropolis, you see

This ignores the fact that OKC has a footprint almost twice the size of Edmonton and a population density almost 3 times smaller.

Gonna be in Vegas the weekend of October 3? Come out to UNLV, I’ll be doing an event with very cool Clark County commission candidate Minja Yan. Minja is amazing, her transit and smart growth vision are such a breath of fresh air in Vegas. See you there! friends.voteminja.com/vegas-2046-a...

Coming to Vegas October 3 to do an event with Clark County Commission candidate Minja Yan. I'm a huge fan of her vision for transit and smart growth in the Vegas Valley (and I think the fandom's mutual?). Free event, but limited space. Early tickets available to patrons and paid newsletter subs!

Got some pub in the APTA newsletter today. I have a lot of thoughts on YouTube’s role in the transit advocacy ecosystem, not to mention urbanism advocacy more broadly. There’s a bit of it in here, but there is SO MUCH to say about it aptapassengertransport.com/four-youtube...
Ray Delahanty had "no idea there were so many people interested in urbanism and transit" until he started a YouTube channel called CityNerd.
But 48 million views and 412,000 subscribers later, he's seen transit's connections to "public health, quality of life, affordability, and climate impact-things that people care deeply about and animate their thinking and politics."

New installment of Ask a City Nerd: the pitfalls of using median income in affordability analysis, the dark magic of compound interest, who’s in charge of ticket pricing at my speaking events, and more. Link in reply
different geographies, it's fine. But I'm always a little uncomfortable enthroning the median as some sort of normal, relatable state of things when we live in an age of such vast income and wealth inequality. I made this point in my recent video on the homelessness crisis, but it's worth repeating here: the variance in household incomes and the variance in housing costs per square foot, within a given geography, are simply not the same animal. In that video, I used Los Angeles as an example:
Los Angeles Household Incomes

So gratifying to hear US mayors articulate this kind of stuff
Another ingredient in the World Cup magic was simple: more people. What if more residents mingled with the visitors?
Supporting local businesses, raising families, working downtown, starting businesses and contributing to our culture and civic life? Let's embrace Seattle as a growing city — and build the abundant housing, safe streets and great public transit that are essential to urban vitality.

Also new on the website: I got ratioed on Threads of all places, and it was Good Actually www.nerd4cities.com/nyc-threads-...
I'm not trying to say people on Threads are inherently stupid. Irony can be hard to pick up on, and it can certainly be hard to execute well. If it's too obvious, then it isn't funny; if it's not obvious enough, people will take you literally and be mad about it. I'm not even immune — for example, I've been looking at this next one for hours and I still don't even know if this person is being earnest or not:

Only someone who is either unbelievably wealthy and can have someone else chauffeur them in and out of the city or is in the pocket of the automobile industry or has not lived in NYC would say something that amazingly uninformed.

As someone claiming to be a city nerd, this is possibly the most uninformed comment about how transportation evolves in cities. This approach was tried under Robert Moses and destroyed the fabric of NY.
If you want Hong Kong transport in NYC, you fix in place, you don't start over.
