It's just good practice to explain yourself, too; just because you know what something is doesn't mean everyone else does. If I post a wild-ass image only a handful of people understand, isn't it great that you can just click on the image and get an explanation of what you're looking at?
A scene from the video game Blippo+, an interactive FMV game where you browse alien television stations heavily inspired by late 80s/early 90s public access television and cable.

This scene features multiple overlapping copies of a disembodied head with a wild mullet hairdo and large dark sunglasses (named Blinker in the game itself). An image from the surrealist point-and-click game Samorost by Amanita Design, showing a spaceship seemingly made out of a can with the label "Polokonzerva" bolted to a thruster and piloted by a tiny gnome as it lands on a surreal grassy green hilly landscape populated by several monk-like figures, notably one in the foreground whose face is that of a photorealistic man smoking a hookah pipe.An image from the web series Hunter: The Parenting, based on the Hunter: The Reckoning tabletop game, showing Big D (a large man with long hair carrying a giant sword on his back) pointing wildly and crazily at a newspaper which features the headline "THE DODO BIRD LIVES!!" followed by a sketch of a dodo bird.

"Sure the patch notes also included lowering a character's ATK to 0 to be 'accurate to the plushie', adding a 'left-handed' mode that changes the cursor to a left hand, and removing all character voices, but we just couldn't fathom it being a joke until people pointed it out to us, so...eto bleh~♪"
A snippet from the April Fools patch notes for the game "100% Orange Juice!" which reads:

"Exciting AI Developments

After a long effort of discreetly collecting player behavior to train it, we were able to develop our own AI model, called K.AI. Unfortunately, after adding it to the game and tasking it to write a new card to add to the game, it instead played -32768 Final Battles, ate the pudding, rode Big the Jonathan out of bounds and declared itself the owner of the game world. We had to do some scrubbing, but we're fairly certain there are no traces of it left in the game."

Man as soon as I finish Control Resonant's story I wake up to a bunch of people complaining about it. It's a complete coincidence, genuinely, but it really is a reminder that there's just a sad number of people out there ready to jump out of their seats and yell "THAT'S ME! I AM THAT MEME!"
The "literal coolest thing ever" meme, showing a smug-looking man in a hat labeled "thinking cap" saying "this fucking sucks actually" as a cool as fuck hotdog wearing sunglasses and a backwards baseball cap skateboards in with the caption "(literal coolest thing ever)"

Well, I started trying to make transitions through doors better and a few hours later I wound up with a rudimentary framework to control the player during cutscenes. I'm sure it's terribly implemented, but it does mean I can send sets of commands rather than manually calling individual functions.

Me: "What's the Kreb's cycle? I'm going to look that up." ... Me: "Biochemists are scary, man."
A screenshot of the Wikipedia article on the citric acid cycle (otherwise known as the Krebs cycle, the Szent–Györgyi–Krebs cycle, or the TCA cycle). A single image takes up a majority of the page, full of various arrows labeled with enzymes and chemical compounds criss-crossing and pointing at molecules. The text of the article is squeezed to the left-hand side of the screen and reads as follows:

"The product of this reaction, acetyl-CoA, is the starting point for the citric acid cycle. Acetyl-CoA may also be obtained from the oxidation of fatty acids. Below is a schematic outline of the cycle:

The citric acid cycle begins with the transfer of a two-carbon acetyl group from acetyl-CoA to the four-carbon acceptor compound"

By the way, before anyone tries to say "this guy's a professor and knows what he's talking about", his degree is in management, I guarantee you this man has never touched anything more complex than basic HTML. Hey, AI bros, stay in your lane, I know more than you about computers, thanks, fuck off.

In addition to his research and teaching, Ethan is the Co-Director of the Generative AI Labs at Wharton, which build prototypes and conduct research to discover how AI can help humans thrive while mitigating risks. Prior to his time in academia, Ethan co-founded a startup company, and he advises numerous organizations.

Here's the post, the user is emollick if anyone wants to block them. What strikes me is just how utterly lazy it is: this could have easily been made much better by even an amateur who had never touched a real game engine and he just...didn't. Just shockingly low effort.
The offending post from Ethan Mollick (emollick.bsky.social) showing a video of a low-quality 3D model of various trees and a house. The post reads:

It kept the original plot and puzzles, added fight scenes, and built all of the characters & environments directly in Threejs code."

This is what his "beam ray" supposedly looked like. Some people still attempt to sell them as cancer cures. In at least one case, the electronic components cost around $15 ($28 adjusted for inflation), and the company claiming it could cure cancer charged $1,425 ($2,763.54 today).
The Wikipedia image for a "Rife Machine", a device invented by American Royal Rife which he claimed was a "beam ray" capable of "devitalizing disease organisms" in living tissue "with certain exceptions" by vibrating radio waves at the "Mortal Oscillatory Rate" of microbes.

The machine itself, though the picture is blurry, appears to consist of a glass jar surrounded by various electrical doodads such as something that looks like a magnet glued to a metal plate and several large capacitors (possibly a Leyden jar, though they appear to be hooked up to nothing) all attached to a wooden box.

As you know, pirates actually raised their jolly rogers as a form of pronoun identification. Well-known fact, that is. Behold, they/them:

Don't forget the obvious tactical flaw that if you started in Gondor and wanted to invade Mordor from the east you'd have to walk AROUND AN ENTIRE MOUNTAIN RANGE and then cut straight through enemy-controlled territory just to get to Mount Doom.
A map of Tolkien's Middle Earth in the Third Age. Lindon, Eriador, Rhovanion, Rohan, Gondor, Rhun, and a smattering of other smaller locations are all labeled but most importantly for the context here: Mordor is located on the bottom-right of the map. Mordor is surrounded by nigh-impassable mountains on the northern, western, and southern borders, and Orodruin (Mount Doom) along with Barad-dûr (the Dark Tower) are both nestled at the northwestern corner of said mountains. In addition, a smaller mountain range extends from the Ash Mountains (north) towards the Mountains of Shadow (west and south), locking off the Plateau of Gorgoroth from Nurn (Nurn itself is situated between several unnamed rivers fed by the Sea of Nurnen). Because the goal of Lord of the Rings was to destroy the One Ring at Mount Doom and not "invade Mordor", the only practical and indeed (relatively) safest approach would be from the northwest, through the Black Gate, like they did in the story.

No, it's true, in fact by my count according to the EU at least 106 jedi knights and masters of varying degrees of power survived the purge, not including new initiates. Behold, King Empatojayos Brand, who captured Palpatine's ghost after Palpatine's clone died.
An image of king and Jedi knight, Empatojayos Brand, a survivor of the Jedi purge. A student of Jedi master Yaddle (I.E. the female Yoda first seen in The Phantom Menace), Brand possessed numerous Force abilities including the ability to capture and contain the malicious spirit of Palpatine, the ability to manipulate his robotic parts (known as "Mecha-deru"), and the ability to purge the dark side of the Force with light. His appearance is that of a metal ball two somewhat useless, stubby mechanical arms on either side and no visible legs, a mechanical jetpack-like structure on his back, and a human head humorously poking out of the top, with only his eyes and nose visible. He is staring at the camera in this image, deep, deep into the viewer's soul. Good lord, why is he looking at me like this? Please stop, I beg of you, please stop.

The concept of "Disneyfication" like this (the perceived "sanitization" of original, "darker" fairy tales by Disney specifically, among others) inspired one of my favorite Tolkien quotes about literary criticism.
An excerpt from J.R.R. Tolkien's essay, "On Fairy Stories":

"So with regard to fairy stories, I feel that it is more interesting, and also in its way more difficult, to consider what they are, what they have become for us, and what values the long alchemic processes of time have produced in them. In Dasent's words I would say: 'We must be satisfied with the soup that is set before us, and not desire to see the bones of the ox out of which it has been boiled.' Though, oddly enough, Dasent by 'the soup' meant a mishmash of bogus pre-history founded on the early surmises of Comparative Philology; and by 'desire to see the bones' he meant a demand to see the workings and the proofs that led to these theories. By 'the soup' I mean the story as it is served up by its author or teller, and by 'the bones' its sources or material—even when (by rare luck) those can be with certainty discovered. But I do not, of course, forbid criticism of the soup as soup."

The article reads: "When summer is at its peak and the days only seem to get longer and hotter, sunburns, heat stroke, and exhaustion become real concerns for pet owners – especially if their dog or cat loves to spend time outdoors. With harsh heat and high UV indexes, owners can be tempted to give their dog a summer haircut, often shaving them down to keep them from overheating, but what many owners don't realize is that dog summer cuts can often do more harm than good.

In theory, summer haircuts for dogs and cats make a lot of sense – the hotter it is, the less you want to cover your body, right? After all, we wouldn't want to wear a heavy fur coat out in the sun, so why should our dogs. But while that line of thinking is logical, it ignores the natural features of a dog's coat that are actually meant to protect them from the sun and heat. So before you pick up those clippers, check out the importance of a dog's coat for heat protection and learn about some warm-weather grooming alternatives you can take advantage of instead."An excerpt from the website of the American Kennel Club, which reads: "Temperatures are soaring, your dog is panting, and there’s dog hair all over the house. You might be thinking that a good, close shave could help cool your dog off while eliminating some of that furry mess.

Well, think again. Many dogs should not be shaved at all, depending on their coat type. Shaving can actually have the opposite effect of what you intend and make your dog even hotter. Here are some insights on shaving your dog, and some steps you can take instead to keep your dog healthy in hot weather."An excerpt from the Willowbrook Veterinary Clinic's website titled "Should my pet get a summer haircut?". It reads: "A summer haircut may help you feel more comfortable during hot, humid summer weather, but it won’t have the same effect on your pet. In fact, cutting or shaving your pet’s fur can actually compromise your furry friend’s ability to remain cool.

Your Pet’s Coat Provides Built-In Climate Control

Although wearing a fur coat in the summer might increase your risk of heat stroke, the same isn’t true for your pets. Their coats actually provide a built-in heating and cooling system. During the winter, your dog or cat’s fur offers warmth when it lays flat against the body. When temperatures soar, the individual hairs in your pet’s coat stand upright, maximizing air flow."An excerpt from the Texas A&M University's website under their Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences department, titled "Time For A Summer Cut? Tips For Warm Weather Dog Grooming". It reads: "While people tend to dress differently depending on the season, most pets “wear” the same coat year-round. Shaving off this hair during the hot summer months may seem like a good idea to keep a dog cool, but it can actually have the opposite effect for some animals.

Dr. Ashley Navarrette, a clinical assistant professor at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, discusses summer grooming and other techniques for helping pets beat the heat.

“While some pets may benefit from a thorough grooming, fully shaving a dog is not usually necessary unless there is matting involved,” Navarrette said. “Trimming may be useful in long-haired breeds to make the hair more manageable, but this should be done by a professional to avoid injury.”"
