thank god he finished it. even though every shudo work is a masterpiece... this episode is the top. it shows so much of shudo's best abilities as a writer. it makes sense to me now he had a lot of trouble with it, you gotta be pretty special to succeed in crafting an episode like this.

When Island of the Giant Pokémon was being conceptualized, Yuyama even toyed with the idea of writing the script for it himself, because head writer Takeshi Shudo was dragging his feet on putting that episode into rotation. Shudo eventually wrote the screenplay himself. #anipoke

every shudo anime has this problem, its because he wasn't too careful with the other writers. he let them have freedom, but it lead to inconsistencies since other writers don't write like him. but man, goshogun really had it bad on that. i had an old blog i never posted and a bunch of it was this.

from what i've been able to gather he probably cared less about what the other authors were doing with "his show" than what he didn't get to do himself. ppl wanna act like shudo is pissed off about everything after his era & tbh, i think us diehards are more mad about the later series than he was.

i'm starting to think most ppl who watched the show have never seen season 1, (at least as and adult) because the show feels pretty different after shudo stopped being head writer. the shift was so quick, too. "after x and y? they mean around season 2 and into G/S lmao.

I've had others comment that Shudo would've liked Sun and Moon's goofiness or Horizons' character growth, and those are fine things to think about, but the reality is that Shudo's only contact was Yuyama asking him to do one more episode. Even thinking about Pokémon was bad for his mental health.

Got a comment today that Takeshi Shudo "would've been ashamed that his philosophy was abandoned after XY," and ignoring that his "philosophy" was abandoned while he was still working on Pokémon, maybe don't co-opt a dead man's legacy to lend legitimacy to a show he wanted no part of.

one time my old man was driving us on the highway and i started telling him about captain planet. he did not believe that it was a real show and i started singing (what i could remember of) the theme song. at the end some douche cut us off and almost hit us. we were going 80 mph, we woulda died.
