Exciting day: I've switched my blog to Flourish, a new static blog engine I cooked up with Claude. Many thanks to Blosxom for 25 years' faithful service. Details in this blog post.

One weird thing about working with Claude: I'm often losing track of the big picture and trusting the AI to keep notes for me. It has a working memory of big tasks we've deferred and how they fit together and it is regularly reminding me of the big picture I have a hard time holding in my head […]

2 of the 27 Enphase microinverters failed in my home's solar system, so those two panels weren't working. No one is monitoring for this failure, I only happened to notice by accidents. Parts under warranty, I paid for labor. Was pretty simple, took the guy 15 […] [Original post on tech.lgbt]

GitHub's dark pattern for cancelling sponsorships unseemly. They already make it hard to even get to this page, why make it harder to click the cancel button?

I was complaining to Claude this morning that the ebook I'm writing only has endnotes without links, not footnotes linked in the text itself. It confirmed that was how the book was published and then rewrote the `.epub` file to have proper clickable footnotes by matching to the text and page […]

For some 30 years I've had a Linux server in my home where I kept all my stuff and done all my work. Just shut down its last incarnation, a virtualized Ubuntu machine. It's now replaced with Proxmox running a bunch of small NixOS containers doing specific jobs. And one generic Fedora machine for […]

Repairing about a gigabyte of video files that `rsync --append` slowly corrupted over the years. I had no idea but rsync --append is not safe to use in general, particularly not repeatedly if the source files are changing. If you use it reflexively like I did, stop!

@waldoj do you know Robin Garcia from C'ville? She's taking a job I care about here in Nevada County.

SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival Marks 25 Years with Commemorative Poster Art by Fest Co-Founder Kathy Dotson and a New Music Partnership with Madcap Records
**NEVADA COUNTY, CA, September 23, 2026** — Nevada County Arts & Culture has named Robin Garcia, Ph.D., as its next Executive Director, beginning October 1, following a four-month search that drew nearly 140 applicants. Robin Garcia succeeds Eliza Tudor, who is stepping down after ten years as Executive Director. Tudor will remain fully in post through September 30 and will continue in an advisory capacity through at least the end of the year to support Garcia, the Board and the leadership transition. Garcia brings twenty years of experience across arts and cultural policy, government, community engagement and higher education, including work with the New York City Mayor’s Office, Los Angeles County, the City of Santa Monica and, most recently, the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, a small city surrounded by rural communities in the Blue Ridge foothills. Her work has ranged from public engagement and cultural policy to arts administration, public art and a multi-million countywide arts and wellness initiative delivered through more than 100 community-based organizations. Her appointment comes as Culture Forward, Nevada County’s six-year Arts & Culture Action Plan, moves from planning into implementation. The plan connects arts and culture with wider priorities including economic development, workforce development, sustainable tourism and regional identity, education, and community well-being. * * * Be the first to know, sign up for our newsletter, absolutely free of course. Sign Up Robin Garcia “I am honored to join Nevada County Arts & Culture at a moment when so much careful listening, planning and relationship-building has already taken place,” Garcia said. “My first priority will be to listen—to artists and cultural workers, residents, businesses, public leaders and community partners—and to understand how I can best help carry that work forward.” The search was led by the organization’s Board of Directors and included successive stages with staff, community and municipal stakeholders, County leadership and the full Board. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who put themselves forward for this role,” said Amber Jo Manuel, Vice President of the Board of Directors. “The caliber of applicants was extraordinary. We met remarkable people along the way, and their interest in Nevada County Arts & Culture was itself an affirmation of the strength of this organization and the work ahead.” Born and raised in California, Garcia has spent much of her professional life in the state before moving to Virginia, where she most recently served as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Arts Leadership at the University of Virginia. Her move to Nevada County is also a return to California and to family across Northern California. Tudor said, “I am grateful that such an accomplished field saw possibility in Nevada County Arts & Culture and wanted to be part of what comes next. I have enormous faith in Robin—in her judgment, her intellect, her instinct to listen, and her ability to understand arts and culture as part of the wider civic life of a community.” Nevada County Arts & Culture is Nevada County’s designated State-Local Partner with the California Arts Council and administers the Grass Valley–Nevada City and Truckee California Cultural Districts. Garcia assumes the role on October 5. ## More Regional News ### SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival Marks 25 Years with Commemorative Poster Art by Fest Co-Founder Kathy Dotson and a New Music Partnership with Madcap Records ### The Power and Beauty of Chamber Music ### Nevada County 4-H to Host Kickoff Celebration in Grass Valley Load more posts Something went wrong. TIL in Syncthing you need to turn off watching folders (inotify) when syncing a lot of files, like a new clone. With that on it copies about 10 files / second, with it off about 1000 files / second. Unclear exactly what's wrong, the AI's guess is that syncthing is seeing its own writes and […]

Claude Code's default sandbox restricts networking off-host except for an HTTP proxy. Every agent I've run quickly figures out it can tunnel ssh through that proxy. I can't figure out if this is working as intended or if I'm just relying on 'sploits to get work done.
